So while at work today I had some free time towards the end of the day so I figured I’d bring my truck in to take a look at it to try and find my vibration. First up right off the bat I balanced my tires and sure enough I found 2 tires out of balance one was 1.50 and other was 1.75 ounces out. My drive home was pretty smooth compared to what it has been so I’d say so far so good on that.

Now to my question.. I know Tacoma’s are known for driver side needle bearing failures.. But have never been around one with the issue. Is this play in the CV shaft a sign of it being bad? For those that have had the issue is this comparable? My truck is stock 16 SR5 double cab long bed. Only things I’ve changed is I put a set of TRD off road wheels on it. Any help would be great thanks!

Too many to list. I’m lazy
Is your vibration almost rhythmic like rumble strips with spaces in between? Like a low hum that comes and goes between 40-50 mph?

Having just done my ecgs bushing install, I can tell you that what I see in that video is totally normal. Mine did the exact same thing. Change the bearing out and it’s solid as can be now with very little movement.

Your vibration seems to be at a much higher speed range than what people normally experience when it causes issues, unfortunately you can’t really do the 4wd test at those speeds. My thought would be either abnormal tire wear or a driveshaft causing the vibration that high.

78 -85 is a little rough but at 88mph you see some serious shit happen!

my 18 has a vibration in 4hi that would come and go . Never really spent anytime pursuing a answer ... last friday I racked my truck to change the oil and grease it . while the oil was draining I grabbed my grease gun and rotated the front driveshaft to access the zerk fittings and to my surprise the driveshaft moved while I rotated it . the rear joint is missing a circlip and a cup was about 1/4inch out of the yoke . I have a stash of the select fit circlips so I grabbed a brass drift and gently tapped the cup into place . When I went to install the circlip I found the problem , there is no groove in one side of the yoke to retain the circlip ! currently waiting on a new shaft under warrantee ..
