Ours is manual. The main electrical panel has a lockout plate that prevents both the generator and the street power to be connected at the same time. Switch off the street main, switch on the generator. The neighbor has an automatic unit so I just listen to his to figure out when to switch back to street power.

The generator we have won't run the entire house, but it gives us heat, water (well pump is the biggie), light, and refrigeration. Who needs to do laundry when the power is out anyway. Although since we built the garage the generator doesn't seem too happy; during this last outage I had to shut off the garage circuit to calm it down, even though there really wasn't anything on out there.

While I venture I have 500' in heavy duty extension cords All the nearest neighbors have generators or run home to Mom at the first flicker of the lights.

I know about being at the end of the line only two services past me.

During Sandy other then the trees falling on the trucks I ran the generator a few hours in the Morning and at night to keep the food cold and frozen. Funny how annoying that sound gets after a few days

In the 9 days it was nice to not worry about running out of fuel nice to have 500 gallons plus not sure how far I would have needed to drive to find any.

Usually a Corolla, Mini Van, or Camry. I got a Corolla hatch for a week and it was CRAMPED. Plus it smelled like an ash tray, seeing it had ash all over the door and driver side floor even though there’s a no smoking policy. I also got a sienna once. Better then the Corolla hatch that I was jammed into. Also once had a brand new Tacoma.

Same here but on the Main Street it’s overhead and a tree fell on those wires this week during the storm. We lost for 8 hours. I’m going to call a vendor next week to see about a MTS with a twist lock provision.

Good mornin', fellow Pennsyltuckyvanians!!! What a gorgeous day it was yesterday. I spent 3 hours on a ladder shaping and training a Wisteria in front of our house and then enjoyed some pool time. Today it's grass cutting time - 3 hours of listening to tunes - and spend some time in the apiary with the bees.

    Enjoy the day!!

It’s a little over kill but I want it as simple as possible if I’m not home and the power goes out. And I don’t have 10k to put a automatic system in.

That stuff is evil. It will destroy whatever you have it growing on. Kill it now while you still can! We took ours out after it destroyed a trellis -- kept coming back for 2 or 3 years even though we pulled out every root we could manage. Evil I tell you.
