Ok I had a headlight burn out. I've previously swapped brights. Previous owner dropped in LEDs.

Ordered h11. Great learned today that is the base shape.

Went to plug them in and they didn't fit. Then realized there was an adapter on it to make the 2 pins wider. What is that connector called? The wider pine arrangement.. I'm thinking maybe a 9006?

Next the lights then have a box of some sort with the plug on one end and a 4 pin cylinder plug on the other end.. what is the box for? I figured maybe a fuse or a resistor?

Then last one is what is the cylinder plug called?

So why go through all this trouble with adapters.? I'm guessing maybe just the bulb is out so I'm keeping all the adapters to get more info and decide if I want to get the extreme LEDs.

Yes I run LEDs in the stock housing but with the bulb that just got removed I have a very sharp cut off line where they end. I've kept the old one in so at night I can compare them and adjust the new bulb if needed before dropping in the matching one.

When i replaced my halogens with LED on my 2016 Sport, i ordered 2 sets of H11 (low and high beams) and they plugged straight into the stock connectors and the bulbs just twist in the socket. They did have a fan attached to the bulb base and a square box on the cable that plugged into the factory connector, but didn't have any adapters or require them.

The box that says Xtream LED is the led "Driver" necessary to run the LED bulbs, kinda like an HID ballast. (must have been built-in on your old ones). The other plug does look like a 9006 bulb connector, IDK why you would have that though.

Can anyone here chime in (smarter than me, which is a lot) that the H11s fit in a 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport in ALL the slots (high, low, fog)? So far my Hikaris only fit the low beam. I wanted to put them also in the fog lights but -- no bueno.

Low is h11, high is h9. Don't know fog off top of my head. Owners manual lists what connector is used for each light.

If I remember correctly from doing research before purchasing my LED bulbs, the manual states that the lows use H11 and highs use H9 and the fogs use H11. The sockets on our headlight housings are both the same for lows and highs, just the H9 bulbs has a higher wattage then the H11 bulbs. The H11 LED headlight bulbs I purchased fit in both the lows and highs sockets, but due to the clearance behind the lamp housings, you need to be sure the LED bulbs you purchase has a slim fan design or it wont be able to go into the housing without unbolting the headlight to give you clearance to get the bulb into the socket.
As for the fog lights, it states you can use a H11 bulb for that also, but I chose a H11 LED fog bulb instead of another set if H11 LED Headlight bulbs. The fog H11s doesnt have a fan attached to it. I never tried installing the headlight bulb in the fog socket so cannot say for sure if it will fit, but it should. This is on my 2016 Sport, but unless you purchased a 2020 with the upgraded LED Headlight package, the housings for the Halogens should be the same from 2016-2020.

These are the ones I purchased in June 2017 and they are all matching color temps (6000k) All are still working perfectly.

Just to add to this; you need to grind down a little plastic piece for H9 to fit in a H11 socket.

Since the LED Headlight bulbs I purchased states it fits H11, H8 and H9 and is the lower wattage H11 LEDs, they will fit in the H9 (highs) socket. If you were purchasing specifically H9 bulbs which were higher wattage, then they wont fit in the H11 (lows) socket without modifications to the socket. The LEDs I bought fit both sockets without any modifications.

Here is a picture of the back of my housing with the LED lamps installed.

I remember now that I did have to loosen the headlight mounting bolts in order to get the LED bulbs in the socket for the low beams in the projectors.

That's odd. The H11s fit fine in the low beam. The H11s do not fit they are way larger than the socket for an H11. It has to be an H9. I'm not sure what you would cut off. Anyone have a photo?! I have these two H11s that will not fit in the HIGH or FOG light sockets. I know they look the same but the recipticle for the LOW is larger than the HIGH/FOG. I can take a photo if anyone cares. This is for my 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport.

Could be either Toyota made slight changes on the newer headlight housings, or the H11 bulbs you have will only fit in a H11 socket. The LED Headlight bulbs I bought states it will fit H11, H8 and H9 so that could be the reason why they fit for me in both the low and high beam sockets.

Correct! For the 2020 models, they do not fit the HIGH and FOG LIGHTS!

So...if anyone wants to trade some H11 Hikari's for some H9 Hikari's (unused) let me know!

Most likely you have the normal fog lights (H16 Bulb) and not the wide angle fog lights (H11 bulb).

The High and Fog light recipticles are the same, only the low is larger. I thought they were H9s....

More detail on the driver? Because the LEDs without that box dropped right in. Funny they are aimed differently when I compared the new ones to the old one didn't mess with the aim at all but somehow it was changed.

The LEDs themselves can't run on 12 or 14 volts, they run very low voltage (maybe 2-4v) and require a steady current flow, something no vehicles 12 systems can do. The "driver" steps down the voltage and regulates the current it so the LEDs can operate properly. On your original bulbs the driver must have been built-in vs. external. As for the fitment and aim that may be a difference in the brand. Also some LED bulbs can be adjusted (rotated) on the base to get the proper alignment.
