    When I bought the previous Griots model and other polishers like the Porter Cable the universal recommendation was not to use 6" pads. The G9 is not supposed to have that limitation. However going 5" does have some advantages, the pads will be cheaper (you need multiple) and will fit into tighter areas than the larger pads. Should be able to keep rotating (working) easier as well.

    Just placed an order for a G9 and a 5” conversion kit. I’ve only had my Tacoma for a week so certainly not touching it but I’ll do my black RAV4 and my beetle. The only reason I bought this is it looks like fun.

    Yes, it can be very relaxing and therapeutic, but it can also be very boring because it's not a fast process. You need to take your time and let the pad/polish do the work.

    I started with a HF DA and changed the backing plate to a 5.5 inch and repacked the grease. I will use that until it dies. I also have the Rupes 3.5 inch DA for the contour areas. I only have to deal with my personal cares, so not a ton of work FYI. That equipment along with the right products (for the paint you are working on) should tackle almost any job IMO. I am nowhere near a professional, but I have my cars dialed in. I am also a research guy so I have been down a few rabbit holes.
