Currently working on a custom scratch build / kit bash... Here's a preview... Also doing a Tamiya Panther Type G trying out some new paints - Scale Colors from Jeff Herne. Great paints!

    She ain't stock anymore.
I haven't painted anything in forever, but with everything going on I wanted something to keep me busy so I dug out my old brushes, spent way too much money on paint, and bought Blackstone Fortress a Games Workshop Warhammer 40k boxed game. I finished the last dude last night and while none of them are spectacular, I think they look pretty decent for a noob. I made lots of mistakes, but learned a lot in the process and I'm looking forward to painting more (maybe not a big boxed set like this though, the thought right now is a little soul crushing). I've never played anything 40k before and primarily bought this set because #1 it was self contained, I didn't need to buy a ton of extra stuff to play, and #2 because I've always liked the 40k models and lore.

Managed to squeak one more across the finish line for 2020. Takom's 1/35 AML-90, built with DEF Model resin wheels, Israeli decals from Echelon, and brass wire for the antenna. Started on December 24, it was a challenge to see if I could complete a build in roughly one week. This was also a first attempt at hand-painting paint chips. I may have gone a bit overboard for historical accuracy, but I'm fairly pleased with the results.

I also finished two more earlier this year, both in 1/35 scale:

T-80U from Xact Model. Added MasterClub tracks, copper tow cables, and a brass wire antenna.

Rooikat AFV from Trumpeter. Out-of-box save for brass wire handles and antennas.

This is Guinevere from Azimuth Designs. I'm having trouble with the head (women's heads huh?!) getting the eyes right and it has a wig...The white costume areas were recommended by the artist to use a combo of 2 different nail polishes which turned out really well.

    thumbnail_IMG_1295.jpg

, getting the eyes right and it has a wig. The artists directions recommended using 2 nail polishes combined for the white areas. It turned out really nice and now I can negotiate the make-up aisle at Target!

Almost finished with this Testor’s metal body ‘66 GTO I’ve had in a box since 1999.

I think it’s finally time to build it.

    B2823775-89BE-44AE-9E94-04386B407257.jpg

The Model Master ‘69 GTO Judge will be next.

Also planning to redo the body of an AMT ‘69 GTO (see a trend?) and do it up with an aluminum skin like a WWII fighter. With decals.

Not sure why I waited 20 years other than I had other stuff going on and now I don’t.

    It’s time to build.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Man, you guys do some amazing work. Used to assemble a lot of models, mostly military aircraft, as a kid. But it was just glue it up and paint it with a brush dipped in a vial of Testors kind of stuff. Nothing like the attention to detail I see here. Bravo!

Time to bump a dead thread.

Been working on an IBG Models 1/35 Scammell Pioneer. Almost finished with the chassis. It's been a fun exercise in adding detail. The suspension and steering are now workable, and I've detailed the engine and a few smaller areas around the chassis. Wheels are only temporarily affixed for now.

    20220906_210522.jpg

    20221017_235259.jpg

Had to narrow the front leading arm to avoid interference with the fuel tank and stowage basket (not shown), which also required modifying the axle beam. Steering hubs were cut from the single-piece spring/knuckle mold, then pinned to allow for articulation. Scratch built a new tie rod from brass tube.

    20221017_235317.jpg

Leading arm clears the fuel tank now.

    20221017_231541.jpg

Rear walking beam originally consisted of five main parts in one mass. This was chopped and pinned to allow for articulation.

    20221009_214853.jpg

    20221009_215004.jpg

Detailed the engine a bit based on reference pictures.

    20221018_105704.jpg

    20221013_192446.jpg

Scratch built new fuel tank steps to replace the oversized molded-on kit steps and added weld beads from putty. Also added a fuel cap retention chain and drilled out the bezel for the fuel gauge.

    20221017_102654.jpg

Added some styrene stock to the stowage basket to make it more 3D, sections of styrene rod to simulate hinges, and retention chains for the lock pins.

    20221017_214724.jpg

Just a few more parts to go on the chassis and it'll be ready for paint.

I know this is an old post, but I've built a few of these. You gotta be super careful bending the small parts and make sure you bend them the right way the first time, as metal fatigue breaks these really easily. They most certainly test your patience. Getting the tabs twisted or bent in some of the tighter models is a pain.
I've built the Kawasaki Ninja, 65 Ford Mustang, and Ironman. I'm partially into a Himeji Castle model from them, but lost patience on it and it's sat on a shelf in an unfinished state for some time. I also have an Abrams Tank that I broke the very first piece on :annoyed: so it's just sitting taking up space. I should try to see if it can be saved, but motivation is low. I also have a un-started Model A I believe.

How did you “patch” the hole left by removing the surfboard peice?

I had to do this on my end as well.
I inserted PLA sheets cutout to match that were glued in, then filled with an epoxy filler then sanded down then primered/painted. I did strip off ALL of the paint off the part before working with it though.
