49EE4030-1FAC-4A5D-AE60-FED4A3E32758.jpg I have this tall ARE canopy that I’d like to trade for a cab height canopy that’s also black. Willing to travel anywhere between Northern California and S.W. Washington.

Why would you want to trade it for a cab height model? Just curious. I have the same thing on my Pro and wouldn't have anything else. Ironically, I just finished bed lining mine black.

@RobP62 it actually has been super nice having the extra headroom for moving and traveling and the dog(s) especially because the short bed is already so limited. I want to trade purely for aesthetic purposes.

Ahh, I can understand that, and honestly, I agree, well, I did and when I put mine on I had the same thoughts for a while. To me it reminded me of a turtles back. Also, to make things worse, I had no choice about the color because it was used. It was in pretty good shape though but for a while I wondered if I had made a huge mistake. I had a cap on a Tundra I use to have. So I was not new to caps, and to some of the pitfalls. The first thing I realized with the MX was how the added headroom was a huge bonus. I don't intend to sleep in the back camping but in sever weather it will be a great benefit if I need to. Or worst case, a nice heated/dry latrine with headroom to sit on a 5 gal bucket. Having a short bed though, if you need/want a cap, nothing is better. I also take my own trash to the local landfill and I like how I can definitely stuff more bags in there.

So after a while it grew on me. This is my second Tacoma (my 17' Sport was totaled for me) and now some of my vanity is taking a back seat to practicality. I also think since I have some things (and more to come) on the roof of my cab it actually blends in a lot better. Now that it is black, and textured it is going to really look good on there. A friend did the same thing with a cap on his red OR. That was my inspiration. So I removed all the windows including the rear, and the fake front skylight glass, and sanded the hell out of it, replaced the old screens (one had a couple holes and both were now loose) with a tighter weave, more insect proof rated fiberglass screen. It was my first time repairing screen and it went really well. They are tight as drums and look much nicer now fresh. Ultimately I am going to mount rails on the top so I can attach solar panels and a rear light bar. I'm also going to install and all aluminum bed bar type of setup on the inside. This will allow me to suspend things from the ceiling and hang trail tools on the sides. It will also allow for a window mounted fan. These are all ideas right now and won't happen for a while but I am in no rush.

After I get the cap installed in the next week or two I'll post up the finished, bed lined version, in black.

That’s going to look great in black! I like the hi rise canopy with your cab rack. Looks like you have big plans with it for the future. I came from a ‘16 w/ a tonneau to my truck now with a softopper and then sold that and bought this fiberglass one. I don’t think that I’ll ever not have a canopy. It fits my needs really well.

Funny, I did the exact same thing. Bak Revolver X2 (currently for sale) on my 17' Sport, to a Softopper on this 19' and then the cap. I know a lot of people argue that it limits your cargo carrying capabilities and that is true to some extent. I have a 16' tandem axle utility trailer though so............

When you pack up for a trip and don't have to worry about the elements, or have the added security, or a safer place for pets.......it's all worth it.
