Mind you, this is coming from someone brand new to the Tacoma world.

Obviously, if you are taking your truck off-road, especially if you are going into rough terrain, having your truck lifted for more clearance and/or larger tires is important. And some folks are going to do it for the looks of it, even if they have no plans of taking the truck off of pavement.

My question - is there any other benefits of increasing the lift on your Tacoma, aside from what I just stated? (Clearance, bigger tires, looks) Are there other ride/performance benefits that one can gain from a slight increase in height?

    Welcome.

There must be some engineering benefit for Toyota to lift their 4x4 and Prerunner trucks. 2nd gens, 1st gen, and the Pick up aka 6 lug trucks. Are already lifted by Toyota when compared to the 5 lug trucks. Reminds me of a factory drop bracket lift. The transfer case and front diff wouldn't otherwise fit.

Height, in and of itself doesn't improve anything besides the benefits you stated, but usually with after market struts springs and shocks they have better performance ie; ride quality. Lifting a truck, and putting bigger tires on it lowers your over all gear ratio so that you have less power and makes your truck less fuel efficient, it's higher. But it sure does look awesome! If you use your tacoma for a lot of highway driving and little to no off reading I wouldn't lift it imho.

There’s really no pros. Lifting trucks has negative effects only. Depending on how much lift you’re doing you can justify it because the pros of bigger tires can outweight the cons if you’re off-roading. But that’s about it really. If you’re on the pavement all the time and do minor stuff on dirt you’re much better off keeping the suspension stock and running better tires that can handle shitty weather and light duty wheeling

Don't know if you consider snow off-road, but a lifted truck can be much better in snow. I used to have a BMW that was pretty low to the ground and the front lip/valence would act as plow going through deep snow. If it was just a small drift I could push through with speed, but bigger drifts or deep snow everywhere would get me stuck.

Some people like being higher off the ground for visibility driving. Sometimes it affords me a parking spot that other's can't clear (without being a douche on parking). When the road floods, I like the little extra clearance I have when going through it. Paired with my sliders, it helps avoid the door dings. Sometimes if you have something long laying in the bed, it'll help with clearance on those departure angles. I deal with that sometimes with my steep driveway. That's about all I can think of.

Call it a "suspension upgrade" and you'll keep the trolls away. Maybe.

Handling really, on and off road, and better performance from your suspension. Some suspension companies are known for high speed and firm handling (Icon), and other companies are known for softer/cushier handling that can absorbs bumps a lot better (OME, Fox, King I think?). I know my truck is a truck and it's gonna feel like a truck but the stock suspension on the TRD off roads is extremely jarring over the most minute bumps. My goal is to achieve better handling and comfort on dirt, asphalt, snow/ice ridges our town is known to get in the winter, rocks etc. However your three main points are mostly correct; more clearance, rugged good looks , but a lift won't generally let you achieve larger tires unless you have a body lift on. There's too many other factors like wheel specs, fender shape, cab mount etc that will dictate your ability to fit bigger tires.

Since, back in the day, I used to drive a Nissan 300Z, I know that 'snow plow' experience all too well.
