Just wanting to start something for the Oregon people to share fishing info and maybe some fishing meetups.

trout, salmon, bass, and other fish it doesn’t matter!

Also BS a little about fish stories and the good/bad of ODFW

    Hell yeah.

My only gripe with ODFW has been that the warden I dealt with didn't recognize my eTag as valid but when his supervisor showed, it suddenly was valid.

Anyone jumping on early winter steelhead? I was going to try Siuslaw this Sunday. It's going to be a little off-color and the fishing has been pretty slow I guess so it'll be more of a scouting trip. I've got an extra seat if you've got rain gear.

They're expensive as hell! Was $99 for tag, license, and endorsement this year. Just let me know and we'll watch the river levels. So far the levels just haven't been right on any river. Either way too low or blown out.

99 isn’t so bad... I’m looking at over 190 for all my tags and licenses and stuff haha

Yeah $196 for the Sports Pac. Usually every year I just buy my fishing license, tag, and endorsement on the 1st and then wait til I have to apply for my hunts to buy the Sports Pac. They refund you the difference if what you've already bought is included in the Sports Pac.

heading over to the Fall River/Wikiup/Craine prairie area in two weeks. What’s some tips or tricks over there? what are they hitting on? Any areas/spots we should try?
I use to fly fish in my early 20’s and then lost interest for 15 years until last year. Now me and 3 buddies are heading over 19-24th for some fishing and camping.

Are you planning on fishing the lakes? Or rivers. It’d be two different methods depending on where you want to go and I’m a river guy. For that area this time of year you can expect a ton of caddis and moderate amounts of stoneflies. In central Oregon the secret sauce is a fly called the Possie Bugger. Basically the #1 attractor fly in the warmer months. Your second fly can be whatever nymph you have in your box that matches the naturals and you’ll have a good day. As soon as you see a rise switch to swinging wet flies or try your hand at dries. Carry an assortment of different caddis pupae for when the fish start rising.

The plan is to fish both lakes and rivers while we’re over there and then halfway through the week we’re moving to diamond lake for the second half of the week from the 24th to the 27th

For the lakes you’re going to want a sink tip or a full sinking line. Preferably with access to a boat since it’ll be pretty hard to wade out to cast into the lake.

Good that’ll increase your success. Crane prairie is like a crown jewel of central OR and has some massive bows (knicknamed Cranebows). It’s pretty shallow in some areas and can be fished with most standard river mayfly patterns. If you really want to get down I’d recommend throwing some sort of weighted leech pattern. There’s lots of leeches in there. A bunny leech or MOAL leech for steelhead can be deadly when the mayflies aren’t doing it. Stick to the downed trees and bring a heavier rod. Your 5 wt will take a whooping. I bring my 7 wt when going that way. If you’re in the river then the 5 is fine.

Then definitely look at some leech patterns. Basically any steelhead leech pattern should work. I wouldn’t go smaller than 3X tippet. You’ll see!

Gonna try and revive this thread....

my fishing year so far has been a rollercoaster much like my life....

Up until middle of June I had only caught 5 trout... then slayed them on the Fall River and diamond lake. Then Timothy lake.. but then died off again. I have had more days of sinks this year so far then actual days of catching fish

on a side note though. I caught my first bass and steelhead this year so that’s awesome!! Here’s some pics of my fish so far this year.

    Skunks come on...
    Blue lake X3
    Harriet lake x2
    Hagg lake
    Diamond lake
    Columbia river x3
    Fairview lake x4

    Deschutes River
A pond near me that doesn’t have a name but has bass in it x4

    Catches came on
