Power plug

Anyone have any ideas on what this plug goes toon my 2020 SR? It’s on the passenger side of the engine bay. Tested with the lights on at each position, DRL, parking and headlights, and got nothing on the multimeter. Turned the key to acc and still nothing. Turned key to on and got around 11.8 volts from the plug. Just curious what it would power. Based on other posts I’m certain it’s not for fog lights.

 

Passengers side rear? Or front?

 

Passenger side front, almost under the washer fluid reservoir.

It's for a low washer fluid sensor on Canadian trucks.

If I want to plow through traffic I’ll just take my M1A2, won’t even feel the traffic.

 

Why the heck would only canada get that? Market-to-market changes are so bizarre sometimes

 

Government requirement in CA, but not USA? Toyota trying to save a buck where possible? But cheaper to only have 1 harness type?

Some quick reading shows that the same discrepancy exists in Hondas too. Kind of reinforces my CA requirement speculation.

 

For my 2005 Pilot, the Canadian version had automatic headlights but the US version didn't.

 

Canadian market expects large washer fluid tanks and low level sensors, presumably their greater need from weather conditions. Larger starters and block heaters are typically standard as well.

 

So if we buy the sensor and plug it in, will it work?

 

It would probably work since the harness does have power active. Realize it's not just the sensor, you have to swap the tank too.

If I get bored one day I may look up the expected resistance of the sensor and see if I can get the warning to activate.

 

I’ve read somewhere that there is a setting that has to be programmed in the computer for it to work. But I’m not sure. I want to find what else I can use it for. Free power source.

 

Most of those are an open or close circuit. If the lights not on and it’s open in stock form, try jumping it with a paperclip(at your own risk)

Depends on the circuit, on many ECU circuits it’s just looking at continuity
Edit: my 2011 impala had been in a crash and had a bad level sensor. I simply jumped the wires together to make the light go away. 20,000 miles later and it’s caused no issues

 

the op stated 12 volts on one wire with the key on - if the other wire rings to ground, I promise you if you jumper them it will blow the fuse.
Th key is checking the other wire to see what the continuity is.

 

The plug itself has 12 volts on it, positive and negative leads, verified by one probe in each of the slots. Also probe on one side and the other probe on the chassis gave 12 volts.
