no worries i was too initially, but seems anywhere in CO reputable guys will install the 5.29 around 3k, but other states seems to fluctuate greatly some get it done as cheap as 2k, there is mega 5.29 thread that has alot of info if u want to refer to that.

i did go out and get multiple quotes and all were in ball park of 3k for denver area.

If you can get the fat kid, Brian, to do it that's your best bet, and most reasonably priced. $1500 in labor seems insane to me, but I've only done a gear swap in a Camaro before and if you have the tools it's really not that hard. Tacomas might be different though, especially the front. Either way mostly came on to say Brian did mine and I could swear they're quieter than stock. Really happy with his work.

Dunno if this is too late to be helpful and I have no personal experience with them but Altitude Offroad in Castle Rock is mentioned a few times in the 4.88 mega thread. Probably wouldn't hurt to look into them.

Dial gage, magnetic base. I'm sure you have a torque wrench, the rest is labor.

Give it a try, if you get the diff out and don't feel up to the task, take the third members in and have them work on them. would save you tons on their labor.

Just had Colorado Gear and axle http://axlengear.com/performance/ do a 5.29 nitro Rem polish on my 3rd gen, father and son biz recommended by the guys at toytec. Top notch no bs and old school customer service. $1500 out the door and done in a day. Very happy with the results

    @Evomike1

Sorry I should have been clearer, that was just the labor cost as I provided them with full Nitro gear kit to install, the REM polish 5.29 kit was $1600. $3k seem to be the going rate in Co for a kit and install. Unless you find someone that can do it as a side gig for cash.

Altitude Offroad down in Castle Rock did my 4.88s. I had a great experience. The owner, Andrew, is a cool dude and knows his stuff. I think the total cost was 2850 installed. Also got a beer while I was waiting on the 500 mile oil change. Primo.

Wanted to follow up with you on this. Any issues with the gears since you had them installed? I'm looking at Altitude Offroad as well to do gears in my 4R.

Nope, I've had them for over a year now and they've been great. I just did my second (15,000 mile) diff oil change and the lube was very clean. Metal shavings were fine and few.

Hey all, moving to Pueblo Colorado from New Jersey in June. I have a 2011 Tacoma w/ 2.5in OME lift, cooper st maxxs, heavy arb front bumper, are camper, looking to regear but not quite sure the ratio which would be appropriate. Lurking at this thread @thefatkid, sounds like the go to guy. I heard the trails over here are sick, looking forward to hitting up the springs soon!

Im getting ready to pull the trigger on a gear set soon. Ive read a lot of negative reviews about the 4x4 shops here in FoCo, so Im hesitant to go that route..Whats the best way to reach out to @thefatkid to see if he's available? His profile says only to tag him, no messages.

I paid someone a grand to do it. That was definitely worth it.

Al at Colorado Gear and Axle took care of me. Install was priced well. I had to run and install the air compressor and lines for the lockers myself. I preferred doing that anyway. Al was fast and priced well though, and a great guy to work with.

Do you have a garage and tools? Can you do simple tasks like brakes and maybe a CV axle?

    https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-131078-8-tacoma-fj-cruiser-4runner-e-locker-3rd.html

Buy a complete third from ECGS and swap them out yourself. They build and send the 3rds and you ship yours back as cores. could not be easier. Toyotas have 3rd members so this is so easy.

drain rear axle, pull rear brake lines, remove 4 bolts on rear hub, pull axle shafts out~6", remove rear drive shaft flange bolts, unbolt 3rd, remove and replace 3rd, reverse process. Bleed brakes.

Front requires both cv shafts to be pulled and some slightly different processes...

Altitude off-road in Castle Rock did my 5.29's and they did an awesome job. They also pre-built up a 3rd member so that when I dropped the truck off, the work was done extremely quickly. They're extremely knowledgeable and helpful and do great work. Highly recommend them.
