Triumph Spitfire was a very close competitor with the MG brand as well as the Triumph TR6 brother.
This is a very nice example .

 

Though closely related to the Spitfire, Triumph never referred to it as such. The GT6 got away from the anemic 1100, 1300, and 1500cc inline fours in the Spitfire, and used a slightly less anemic 2 litre inline 6. Weighing in at just under 2000lbs, it didn't need a lot of power to be fun to drive.

...^^^... I used to go to Bob Evans for our special breakfasts in the past ... always loved their food. I used to be a "food spy' for Shoneys too. lol

Got a free meal each week for up to 4 people. Had to visit different Captian D's (Shoneys owned Captain D's) and do a small "check list report and mail it in with receipts every month.

It was a great deal ... but the greeeaazzzy food got to me.

Bob Evans always had the best food ... and Drag Races at Riverside Dragstrip in Proctorville, OH ...

Good memories from Riverside ... had a buddy who raced a Royal Pontiac 421 1964 GTO ... and later a 455 GTO.

My cousin raced his 396-375 Chevelle at Riverside ... cousin retired as a big cheese with State Police and later became a US Federal Marshal bossman. ... lol

We were all a little crazy with our cars back then ... I had a 1965 389-335 GTO that was OK quick ... but not built for the dragstrip with a 3.23 stock rear end.
Later changed it to a 3.90 rear with some engine mods and it was a bit quicker.

The 426-425 Hemi's (highly under-rated HP) were the bosses at the drag strip.

 

They had long legs too. A genuine 100+ MPH car at a time when that was really fast.

 

Yup, 'breaking the ton' was a thing...

Personally, 100 mph in one of those at ANY time would be reallly fast, lol.

 

With no visible badging in the photo it was hard tell it was anything other than a spitfire.
I could see it had Euro plates and British racing green paint. If it's a GT6 I have never
seen one close up to note the differences.

 

I've read a good many stories about the early Land speed record holders. And back in the
very early 1900's men were going over 100 mph in machines that were not much more than
bicycles with engines on them.

 

Fastback roof is the giveaway. Spitfires were all roadster/convertible. GT6s were all fastback.

Looks like a 60 or 61 Corvair Wagon. Lakewood. As a kid I would hate to have to ride back there
with the engine sitting just underneath you. If mom gave you a gas mask maybe you might live.
