Search is apparently not my friend today.

I went down a little trail today to a friend's cabin and figured I'd test out the various modes just to play a little and see what's what. The 4H no problem. 4L no problem. Crawl control yup. MTS worked (noisy!!). When I tried to engage the locker in 4L the light never flashed or did anything. No locker. Tried in and out of MTS, in and out of Crawl control, in and out of Drive, in and out of 1st gear in S mode. Tried moving at low speed in D and 4L and while stopped. Nothing. No indicator lights at all for the locker.

After reading a bit it looked like I might need to do a couple of figure 8's to get it working but it looks like the light should at least come on and flash.

    Any hints? Possible bad solenoid?

I'd guess a bad switch. You'd still have lights with a bad solenoid.

Time to stop into the dealership I guess... 20k miles so it should still be under warranty.

Circling back. It was the switch. Replaced by the dealer, no charge.

Good thing you tried it before you actually needed it!
It's wise (and recommended by Toyota) to throw these on every once in a while if you haven't done so.:burnrubber:

Yep, that's the plan but living in suburbia it can be tough to find a dirt road where someone won't get unhappy with you for spending quality time there. I went to the parking area at the county fairgrounds and played a bit. No one seemed to mind so I'll be going back once in a while just to keep all the moving parts in order. Hell, even my regular hunting property has a paved road...

Did you try putting it in neutral?

Edit: saw it was switch.
