I have a 2.7 with steelies and about to grab these. Only stock wheel I’ve ever really liked more than a lot of aftermarket wheels.

    Looks great man!

Whatstcp. Do you have a lift on your truck or is it stock?

    Also here is mine.
2012 4wd. 2.7l 110,000 miles. Like brand new. All I have done to it mod wise so far is fog light, underhood light, bed light, usb charging port and center console organizer.

Hey how's it going bud, I just have a simple 1.5 lift up front and 3" lift in the rear. The driveway slopes so the rake isn't too apparent in the photo lol

Love your truck man, and mad jealous of the bucket seats. Looks like it's being treated and used well! Look forward to future posts

Thanks. Mine doesn't hardly see much mud other than a driveway or a trail to get to a good fishing spot. I only wash it 1 once a week and detail it about every 2 weeks. Lol

Found a set of 17” FJ rims for nearly free dollars. I have about another year left on my current tires (255 85 r16) and looking at costs, 17” similar profile are much cheaper.

Happened upon a good CL deal for a set of steelies with some 265/75-16 Cooper Discoverer for $240. Tires are super old but still have good tread so probably run them for a bit till I get my daily OR rims/tires plastidipped. Then I think I’ll run the steelies as a “trail set” with the Nankang N889 M/T Mudstar seems to have some pretty great reviews for the price anyone where run them yet?

Alright fellas, so here in a couple weeks I’m gonna take a road trip a little over 1,000 miles with a decent amount of wheeling. So I’m getting close to rollin over 60k so was wondering what maintenance I should take care of before heading out.

things ive done recently or will do soon.
    - Oil change
    - Rotate tires
    - power steering flush, done
    - brake fluid flush, done
    - serpentine belt, done

    Should I do these?
    - differential flush, front & rear
    - transmission flush
    - transfer case flush
    - coolant flush

Idk about replacing the fluid for the diffs, as your mileage is pretty low but wouldn't hurt and Valvoline gear oil is pretty cheap and a quality fluid. At a minimum I would pull the fill plug for diffs and transfercase and give it a quick fingering to check the level and color/consistency. I've seen diff fluid that looks almost brand new at 120k miles and I've seen metallic black toothpaste diff fluid at 30k miles (on a third gen too).

For the coolant, definitely do a drain and fill as it breaks down after a while and you don't want it eating away at your coolant system. Valvoline makes a pink coolant that works well with our Tacomas.

I'd also make sure your spare can hold air, check for dry rot and DOT date to see if it's time to replace and that the spare tire hoist is functioning.

A bit of a stretch, but you can get some AC spray cleaner from home depot and clean your ac condenser and radiator to try and help it on the long trip since it's getting pretty damn hot out. Check the fins for excessive dents and straighten them out.

    Besides that, grease the driveshafts.

Just being a good idea fairy lol be sure to post trip reports!

I'm currently working on adding mid travel suspension. After that I'll be plating the front part of the frame as well as new motor mounts.

For sure I’ll at least pop the plugs and take a look probably a better idea then gettin all the oil and not needing to do it for a while haha.
I think the coolant is probably a good idea anyway. I haven’t done a flush on a Taco but anything tricky I need to know? Or is it just as straightforward as any other flush?

Spare should be good it’s less than a year old but good idea might as well check the pressure.

I was at Lowe’s earlier today and noticed some of that but honestly didn’t really know what I was looking at haha.

I’ll definitely post a trip report but heading to SW Colorado gonna check out Wheeler Geologic site, Stony Pass, Ophir Pass, Imogene Pass, Yankee Boy Basin, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, then up to Crested Butte and check out Schofield Pass/Paradise Divide if they are open. It should be a good trip!

Nothing much to replacing the coolant, I suggest just doing a drain and fill of the radiator with the petcock on the driver bottom side of the radiator. Pretty easy to do and gets some new fluid in there.

For the AC cleaner, I use this one on both the condenser and radiator. I just remove the plastic grill, spray the foam, let it sit, then rinse off carefully with shower spray nozzle setting. I do it once a year in the springtime along with my homes AC condenser. Probably overkill but I like my AC cold and my operating temps stable lol

Have always wanted to visit Black Canyon, should be a sweet trip.

Keeping the regular cab post alive. Just posting my truck. Simple truck but would like to put bigger tires on it. Hearing a lot of good things on the bilstien 5100s but put that with UCAs and it's a bit pricy. If I were to go 2" would I need UCAs? Would like to fit 285/75/17s but don't know how hard that's gonna be.

265/70r17 will fit with no problem. 255/80r17 will fit with a little work. 285s are gonna need substantial cutting unless you're a mall crawler. I'm on 265s with just a little lift.

Yea. 265/70/17s is what I got now. They seem good and it's what I should probably keep to keep cost down but you know. Bigger tires are always more fun. But you gotta pay to play.
