I wonder if the San Antonio plant will become a token plant, doesn’t seem like there will be a lot of volume if there are only producing Tundras and Sequoias.

The SA plant exists almost entirely for political reasons. It's basically Toyota's admission ticket to doing business here in the US.

Kinda bummed about that. I go back and forth between Tijuana and San Diego due to family being in Tj, and it was kind of something to be proud of about the city, driving a truck made there.

This is my last Tacoma. I would've bought a Colorado if I couldn't get a US assembled truck. It's not like they are passing on the savings of cheap labor to the buyer.

What I fear is that land cruisers and 4runners will be produced in Texas rather than japan.

not sure about Mexican manufacturing quality. But I believe all the dumb assembly errors that plagued the Tacoma 3rd (like diff. Howl and CPS paint) came from the Texas plant.

Both the rear differential and cps were produced by other manufacturers.

So Tex and Mex both used those outsourced parts.

Vehicles manufactured in Japan are not without defects, despite the rumors of perfection.

All vehicles have parts from all over. They are all Frankenstein's. Who gives a shit where it's made anymore. Japan's vehicles also have their fair share of recalls and annoyances.

My Baja California, Mexico made Tacoma has been incredibly well built, now 10 years old. Driving by the factory along the highway between Tijuana and Tecate is fun, too!

Same, my 3rd gen was built in Baja, Mexico, absolutely 0 problems with it mechanically or fit and finish. Mexicans are among the hardest working people. But there are other troubling implications with outsourcing. Bummer news.

I don’t quite get the “American made only” ideology. We live in a world where economies are intertwined. One affects the other and vise versa. Most of the items we purchase have come across a few oceans and trucked cross country for your need and enjoyment. My Japanese brand, US designed and made in Mexico truck has been solid. Righty-tightie works the same in Spanish.

Slightly off topic, but how many American citizens would you guess are willing to risk everything making a dangerous journey into Mexico to become undocumented workers?

    Yeah, I thought so...

yea but in Japan when mistakes are discovered...heads roll (sometimes literally). They take care of the problem to prevent great shame upon their families
