Tacoma hood w scoop

Was going to ask the same thing. Is it functional because it's a hole in to the engine bay or is it actually functional?

Yep, just checked their site, it is functional...nice. https://www.rksport.com/2016-Tacoma-Hood-p/53012000.htm. They also have a CF version.

I can get them brand new down here in Charlotte Nc for $119 there's a place called Certifit try them im not sure if they ship or not i just bought mine there im painting it now

These are the only times i feel good about buying a sport

 

look at the box, it’s not functional. It is feeding the top of the plastic air box to keep the plastic cool.

could it be functional with more money?? Sure why not? You would either have to modify your box and seal it or get a different intake and modify it.

take a look at the OEM box and follow all the ducting coming off of it. One of them leads to cold air. Most car manufacturers do this now. Either get the air from the grill, a fender, whatever. You technically have a ram air/ cold air style box already. You can clean it up if you want to with a sleeve and smooth inlet to the throttle body (pretty sure Toyota sells the part for the inlet), but you have the best of it now.

edit: if you want to make the hood functional, you could always use a cone filter in a different (probably custom) box. You won’t get any more horsepower or feel the difference because you basically have something similar now, BUT the hood would be functional

Nah sports are too incomplete mine already has a sunroof, jbl audio, leather seats, no chrome on the outside either.

 

ha!! Just go OEM. And I agree. The scooped hood is pretty bad ass

 

No crawl control either and no differential

I have everything you have said, except tor the jbl audio. I had to get a sport, because no other DC MT offered besides the pro in canukustan. I actually really like it, just sucks no locker

 

They mention that on their site. The fact is the hood is a functional scoop (it directs the air where it needs to be going) but as you said, to have a fully functioning ram air setup, it would take some modification. The Tacoma is not a ram air style, cold air sure, but there is a difference.

 

Kind of. The OEM box gets air fed from the fender (cold air) and it is coming from the bottom. Like i said, custom box with a cone filter it it?? Absolutely. I know the dinan intake was like this on my M3 (came with it and was a cone filter inside a box) but there was not really a noticeable difference in anything which is why I am glad I didn’t pay for it.

 

You could add a locker for less than some folks spend on the hood!

 

It's not functional. Unless blowing meaningless air around the sealed area of intake box is your goal. Also looks to be more expensive than OEM.
