Citrus County FL Monthly Adventures

Me and a group of friends have recently ‘organized‘ a monthly wheeling trip to Citrus Wildlife Management Area. It’s random weekends, but typically once a month at least (Florida West). Relaxed trails with a few challenging obstacles. It’s not bad for Florida, we have a good time. Last time I was out there I didn’t see a single other Tacoma....so there’s plenty of room for improvement.

 

I wouldnt mind going back to citrus every once in a while, was fun when I did go a couple times. I gotta finish fixing and overhauling the taco first but I would be down!

 

Let me know, we went today and had a blast. It’s becoming more and more fun each time we go out we learn it a little better.

 

Are you on the Florida trail stompers Facebook? I know a bunch of folks on there were talking about going today. I want to go soon, but either needle bearings in the diff or a wheel bearing is crying for help currently and I'd rather not find out which the hard way.

 

Where abouts are you located? The reason I ask, is if you need help fixing your truck, I own a shop in Orlando. I’m sure we can help you out if you need it. I’m not personally (I haven’t been on Facebook in some years) but there’s a chance the guys I wheel with are on that group. It was muddy today, we found Florida man, stuck to the frame in a ram 2500...my buddy pulled him out somehow in a Cherokee with some Amazon max trax knockoffs.

 

Oh man that sounds like a great time! I'm up in Jacksonville so not far from you at all. Only reason I mentioned the Facebook thing was they put up pictures and there were a few tacos in the group out there, looked like a total blast! What all do you have available at the shop? I've got a lot I need to do but I just bought a house I close on soon and I've already started ordering parts but I still have a grocery list of things to do. Help and a place to do them would be awesome for sure!

I haven't been up there in a couple months, went at the end of the dry season. How are the trails with all the rain we've been getting?

 

It’s been great, hard for me to gauge the rainfall BC it’s so different in Citrus vs Orlando, but every time we go it’s a blast. Has been dry sometimes and wet others, but overall not too crazy.

 

Cool, thanks! I had a blast the last time I went, it's about an hour and a half drive for me. I local place I do off-roading is Green Swamp, out in lake county, but it's impassable this time of year due to water accumulation, and I wondered how it was up in Citrus, it being a very different type of area.

 

not familiar with Green Swamp, but Citrus is 1.5 hours from me too. There’s a place in Clermont we go to once in a while and is the same way, during wet season there’s no bottom. My buddy said he saw a ford ranger stuck and was gonna help but the guy said he was on 50s lol

 

50s? Wow. So much for that I guess. I tried using my old 2008 to pull my friend's F150 out of green swamp when he buried it up to the frame in clay. The truck got an A for Effort, but that was about it.

Yeah I got to get back up to citrus again, I liked that place. I don't have any structural mods to my truck yet; its still stock, but I just like cruising around on the trails out there, and getting away from everything.

 

Well if you’re not busy Sunday we’re going with a squad, usually 5-6 of us but I think this time there will be more. We go pretty often though so I’m sure there will be more if you don’t make this one.

 

Might have to make the 4.5hr trip from PCB sometime. Doesn't seem to be too much happening in my neck of the woods

 

Cool, thanks for the invite, that sounds like a good time. I work Sundays, but have friday-sat off. I'll make it up there soon.

 

Yeah, maybe better as a weekend trip...I had the same issue for years here, finally made friends with a good group of people
