New to group. Just bought the above truck after driving a 2000 limited 4 runner for 17 years. The truck is in mint condition but the seats have to go or something to make them more comfortable. Even though the fabric looks brand new, the seats are hard as a rock and giving me some issues. I've read in here taking covers off and steaming foam, etc. Was going to take it to auto upholstery shop but looking for some recommendations for full on upgrade. I am not handy, can not weld and make modifications to brackets, etc. Was thinking of swapping them out for something more comfortable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey welcome welcome! I dont have any first hand experience but i know there are some direct bolt in seats. corbeau comes to mind. You can search by year make and model but i donno what theyd look like / how much would cost/ or how much more or less comfortable theyd be. But worth a look i suppose. Seen some guys do the seat lift mod and stuff but if its the actual seat and cushion material that bugs you i dont think thats gonna be much help

See if you can find a same/close year in a 5 lug model to try the seat. Mine are firm, but not uncomfortable (to me).

Actually I can't imagine them being different, but you never know................

The other question is, is it really the seat that's a problem, or is it a harsh ride from things suspension/tire related? Maybe a combo of both.

The ride is a bit stiff but the seats are really the issue. There is something hard right around one of the seams digging into the back of leg. Just ordered a cushion to throw on top for now. thanks for the replies so far

I had this problem on my TRD Off Road. The lower seat foam for the TRD OR is actually a different part number than the one for the SR5. I checked when I got my truck because they are hard as a damned brick.
I removed my driver seat, took off the lower cover, cut out the center portion of the foam and replaced it with some softer foam from JoAnn's Fabrics. I glued the new piece in with contact spray adhesive and shaped it with my angle grinder and a flap disc. I should have taken some better pictures than I did, but it turned out good.
There are some bamboo skewer looking things glued into the foam and the seat cover attaches to those with some 'hog ring' looking things. That's probably part of what you're feeling in the back of your legs, but the hard foam makes them more obnoxious.
The SR5 lower seat foam at the dealer was $169 when I checked about five years ago. I figured I'd give it a shot, or screw it up and just buy a softer replacement. It actually turned out pretty good and is holding up well.
