Bought my first pickup truck in Texas. Probably the most American thing I’ll ever do.

They say the take rate of Pros is 5%, the take rate of 6MTs is 5%, and the take rate of Super White is 20%, so with ~200k Tacomas built in 2017, I figure this is somewhere around a 1 in 100 truck (but it’s mine, so it’s really one of a kind ).

As you can imagine, it was quite the hunt trying to fine the exact truck I wanted. I ended up calling no less than 30 dealers within a 300mi radius of Philly and they all came back with trucks that were close, but not quite everything. Since Toyota is allocation-only and doesn’t allow you to order a vehicle, I decided to call the biggest dealer in the country figuring they’d have the best chance of my truck rolling through.

Fred Haas Toyota in Houston TX was the ticket. Being as large as they are (900 vehicles sold per month vs the average dealer’s 90/mo) and located just a few hours from the TMMTX San Antonio plant, they had an in with the scheduling team there and were able to tell me that they had a white 6MT pro headed their way in Nov 2016. I had called over Memorial Day weekend, so it was going to be a 6mo wait. Worth it. Wonderful dealership to work with.

Had them snap some pics of the 6MT shifter before I hopped on the plane.

Flew down Dec 1, 2016 and picked it up that night. Drove it back home to PA over the weekend with my brother and 2 friends. That’s the last time I'll ever sit in the back seat haha. The plan was to make it to NOLA and Nashville on the way back, but we had a little too much fun in NOLA and never did make it to Nashville.
