2020 Easter Egg: Has built in remote start...not detailed in owners manual

That procedure works on mine

 

I’m pretty sure you have to have either the advanced tech package or premium package for this to work. Standard tech package just flashes after you hold it.

 

Tried it on my 2020 sport access cab with premium radio (not the highest end one) and it doesn't work for me.

I had this feature on a Camry; however, once the Remote Services trial subscription ran out, the key fob remote start no longer worked. Has anyone been able to do this on a Tacoma after your Remote Services subscription runs out?

 

That's terrible. So when I don't renew connected sevices after the 1 year free trial, they disable the key fob functionality...

 

1. Lock the truck.
2. After a minute or so, the interior security light will start to flash.
3. On the remote, press lock and release.
4. On the remote, press lock and release.
5. On the remote, press lock and hold. (Continue holding until next step..be patient, it takes a few seconds)
6. Exterior lights will flash several times and the engine will start.
7. Engine turns off when opening the door or using the unlock function on the remote.
Holy crap!! I just found this thread and it worked just like its posted. My dealer said I had to buy one but this is kick ass, like a new present.

 

For whatever reason I’d never been able to get this to work on my 2020 - I have the JBL package. Just tried again and BOOYA! Works!

I actually prefer the fob over the app. Definitely curious to see if this expires with the term of Remote Services.
IMO Not worth the $100/year or whatever it is.

 

Yes, that is what happened in my 2019 Camry. I don’t know if it will work this way on the Tacoma since I am still within my free trial.

 

Bought my '20 TRD Pro in November. I did NOT get the Remote Services subscription when it expired. Just tried the remote start procedure exactly as explained by TacoTacoBurritoTaco, with the duration of Step 2 being overnight. Step 5 took about 5 seconds. It works.

 

This is Toyota Remote Connect and not all vehicles have it. Mine, for example, does not. 2020 TRD OR with zero packages, “base” TRD 6A DCSB Made pre feb 2020.

 

My son told me about the key fob remote start and it worked BEFORE I “authorized” the truck to use the “connect” app. You would think then it would work after the connect trial is up. I guess I will find out next May!!

I believe so.
Remote start, as far as I’ve heard, requires pushbutton start and I believe manual trans still has a key.

 

In all fairness I copied the steps from OP's first post. Same here, I was amazed it worked and Toyota is doing it right with the eater eggs.

 

Thanks for posting “op”! Had no clue that my 2020 TRD Sport had remote start! Planed to purchase one but don’t have to now.

 

Yes it's a safety concern with manual transmissions. If the car is left in gear when you parked the car last, it could takeoff when the autostarter cranks and your not around.
