Decided to replace my shocks on the 2017 TRD OR quicksand. Suspension was an upgrade to Bilstein specials as part of the TRD OR package in '17.
I recently ordered 6112's for the front, & 5100's for the rear.

I always felt that the rear of my truck was underdamped. When going over deep dips at speed, the rear hits the bumpstops with a sudden uncomfortable jolt even when lightly loaded.

I got the 5100's in and pulled the old shocks today, and was surprised that the bodies are considerably narrower than the 5100's. The Bilstein/Toyota's from the OR package are 1.56" in diameter, and the 5100's are 1.96" diameter. I expected them to be about the same. Didn't think that the OR upgrade suspension would be narrower than the 5100's, and also much narrower than the 4600 Bilstein entry level shocks.

Can' wait to put some miles on them.

Big improvement over the dips with the 5100's in the rear replacing the OEM Bilsteins. More plush, supple and smoother, and the rear end now doesn't hit the bump stops on the bottom of every dip.
The OEM Bilstein rear shocks from the TRD OR package are only 39.62 mm. The 5100's are 49.78 mm.
The only replacement shocks I can find that are similarly narrow are $35 Monroe or low line KYB or no-names.
Kinda surprised about this. Don't know why I've been driving around with those wimpy pos dampers and feeling it hit the bump stop since 2012 in 2 different Tacoma TRD OR rigs.

Glad you like them. I have no complaints on my end. Great budget lift for my truck that fits my needs.

Yes, so far so good. I was concerned that I should have sprung for the 5160 over the 5100's. I'm convinced that the 5100s do the job.
I'm waiting for 6112s for the front to arrive. It's been too long a wait. The 5100s might have been fine up front, as well.
