So I'm in the process of figuring out a vibration issue in an 07 tacoma and I have a spare third member to try out. The truck is a 2007 2wd 5 lug automatic with A01A door code which puts it at a 8" 2 pinion 3.58 rear. I also have a 1996 Tacoma 4x4 with a B02A axle code which puts that also at a 8" 2 pinion 3.58. I regeared that truck with 4.56s so my old third is available. My question is will that 96 third member bolt in my 5 lug 07 tacoma? Same axle spline count?

Actually now that I think about it the 07 has abs. 96 does not. Guess I could still use to troubleshoot. Unless someone knows otherwise I'll try bolting it up tomorrow and see what happens.

New ujoints. It's a standard cab so single piece driveshaft. New trans mount(rear engine isolator). I have a whole brand new driveshaft coming Monday to try. Jacked it up pulled rear wheels. Still there. Low rumble and vibration between 45-55 and 65-70. Anything above and below is perfect.

Probably something you already thought about, but how about tire balance or wheel bearings?

Does it with it jacked up and wheels removed. Could be bearings but they feel tight and smooth. Way better than some I've dealt with that had no vibration lol. If it still does it with the new driveshaft I'm thinking maybe carrier bearings. No play in pinion. Therefore my reasoning to try my extra third member from the 96.

Just realized the abs wheel sensors are on the backing plates not the third member. So I'll give swapping my 96 4x4 third member in a try and post the results.

Well a 1996 4x4 third member bolts right in to an 07 2wd housing. Same spline axles. Driveshaft bolt pattern is different though so I had to swap the pinion flange. Vibration is gone. Really weird how a 140k 07 third is already on it's way out but an 11 year older 96 with 245k on it is good to go. Oh well.
