2009 4.0 Auto to manual swap.

Today I underwent the task of swapping the ECMs and setting the Immobilizer.

Thankfully I installed the under shift boot mount and it dosent look entirely bad. I’m waiting for the console to arrive sometime this week and the truck should be complete. And hide all the mess where the shifters at.

 

Can’t wait for the console to show up so I can hide this mess.

 

Note to everyone. If you are going to do this swap. Don’t be lazy. Change the clutch master cylinder before you install the pedal assembly in the truck. If not, you’ll be like me with a leak dripping on the carpet. Gonna get the new Aisin one installed today.

 

My shifter is pretty sloppy, And my shifter is broken. I have ordered the TRD QuickShifter kit and the Marlin Crawler White Shift Seat.

I also installed the MT console. Trucks about done with the conversion.

 

Update. 500 miles and I have bearing noise in neutral. Thought the HydroBearing was suppose to cure that? Also my 4low dosent want to engage. Thoughts? I haven’t tested after the swap. 4high works, 4low dosent.

 

Figured out the 4Low issue.

The truck has to be in “neutral” on the auto harness to send power to the 4Low circuit. So I tapped ignition power to the neutral circuit and I now have working full 4wd functionality.

I also finally tapped into the reverse circuit and now have working reverse lights and rear camera that worked when I shift into reverse.

which Ecu did you go with and how hard was swapping it and setting up the immobilizer?

any tips on future guys wanting to do the same?

 

So I chose. 2009 V6 4x4 MT ECU. I believe I have the number back in the thread a bit. The auto and manual ecu connectors are exactly the same. Plug and play. The immobilizer is a matter of steps, just uses a paper clip between two of the OBD pins for 30 mins. I’ll post that up in a second. Its easier by far to do the swap I’ve found with a 05-08 then a 09 +. Why you ask? The 05-08 trucks have the MT connectors for the ebrake, clutch start switch and the clutch cruise switch. I had to wire in what I wanted.

The reverse switch will have to be tapped from the Park neutral switch connector.

 

I am new to the forum and Hoping someone can help me out.
I have 2005 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4X4 manual 5spd access cab. I put 200,000 on the truck and the motor blew head gasket. Anyway I had a friend of a friend do a motor swap for me and he got me a nice motor with 50,000 miles. It runs good I just got it back today and trying to understand a few things.
The engine that he put in it is from the a 2006 same motor, the difference tho is the engine was from an automatic. Like I said I just got it back but the idle was a little jumpy but seems to be smoothing out, also it seems when I'm in say 2nd gear or 3rd I'll be accelerating and it feels like I let off the gas just a little bit.
My question is, do you know of anything that would make an original auto engine act up in a manual truck with my manual ecm. Should I ask if he replaced the throttle body?
Sorry for my lack of Grammer and confusing post. It is my first post and I'm having trouble putting my question into words.

 

The engines are the same so I wouldn’t expect it coming from an auto to make any difference

 

If you are running a manual ecu then it shouldn’t matter. I mine is a 4.0 original auto and with the manual ecu it’s fine. I’d check throttle body as said

Man, I think my torque converter is going very soon. I really want to do this lol. I've got an 07 sport 4x4 long bed. How long did it take you to source these parts? At least where I'm located second gen tacoma parts don't exist let alone a manual lol

 

First things first. Look under your gas pedal. Is there a small connector taped around there?

 

Small single pin black connector jumped out of the pedal wire?

If so yes

 

What is that for?

Correct, that is the wire for the M/T emergency brake. Which means you are prewired for the swap. 05-08 are prewired usually. My 09 sadly was not. So I just ran a few wires.

There should be a few others near the firewall where the clutch pedal would be. (2)2pin connectors. One for clutch start switch and the cruise control.

Few more issues I see for you include a rear driveshaft. They made a MT short bed taco so I have a driveshaft from that. They did not make a double cab MT long bed. So you may need a custom driveshaft.

Next is you are 4wd. You may need to wire your truck into neutral if you want your 4lo to work. Since with the Auto you have to be in neutral to activate the 4lo circuit on the auto harness.

And last you have to wire in the reverse. Which I just tied a ignition signal to the switch, then from switch to the reverse wire on park neutral connector next to the transmission.
