Off today and tomorrow. Work 3 days, then off Sunday. Start the new gig Monday. Finally have a normal schedule and weekends back! Friday is my local dealers delivery day of buffalo trace allotments. Hoping he got some Taylor or Weller in. I have plenty of blantons and wanna stock up on others I can’t find all the time.

Almost every Balcones I've tried has been at least enjoyable, with some being decent bottles but nothing I'd buy again, and others being must haves at all times. I haven't tried any of their ryes though.

In my whiskey experience I've only come across two bottles that were "corked" (more info here, scroll to the bottom for TLDR) and one of them was a Balcones bottle. Perhaps your bottle was infected as well? Doesn't seem like it given your description, but you never know. You could try going back to the shop you purchased it from and see if they don't mind opening a bottle to sample and compare the two to see if that's the case.

My favorite Balcones bottles are their single malts that are either finished in some type of wine casks, peated, or are aged in used oak.

Yeah, I’m not sure what was up with this bottle. I really hope something was wrong with it, cause it was entirely unpalatable. It wasn’t mine so I won’t bother to investigate, I also won’t ever buy a bottle. I will however order it if I see it on a restaurant list just to check back in and see if it was a one off situation.

Dang, almost forgot another good one! Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Very smooth, with some good oak tannins.

I'm also drinking water. Trying to recover from sweating my ass off during yard work.

Maybe I'll dip into the good stuff tonight... although I should take a break and be kind to my liver for once!

That stuff has morphed over the past few weeks. I've shaken it every other day or so. Was a roller coaster of whiskies with heat in multiple places

Straight up whiskey suicide. Like mixing all the sodas as a kid. Back to the shelf it went
