So my sister in law is having a virtual baby shower because of a pandemic going on. I have been tasked with the video conferencing portion of this and have a few questions: We are going to run the video call off my desktop in the living room hooked up to my TV so she can see all the participants. I was going to use a phone as the webcam as I cant find any in stock. My issue is allowing her to talk and hear evreyone on the call, but not getting wicked feedback from a mic picking it up, what are my options here? I looked at a microphone for them, but would they then have to be in headphones? Am I overthinking this? Looking for the simplest solution possible.

For avoiding feedback you can't beat headphones, but speakers are usually not terrible these days.

Best bet is to test your setup ahead of time.

For a camera, if you can round up an HDMI capture card, a lot of point and shoots and such can output an HDMI signal without all the user interface stuff. Much better lens than a phone.

    Bump...

Hmm...I agree with the headphone suggestion. Not sure how many are wanting to view the tv/audio in the same room but alternatively I would suggest to cast the video to the tv and to keep the audio exclusively to headphones in the room.

Maybe someone can offer additional suggestions?

It would be my sister in law, her BF, my wife running gifts and I'll be there incase the computer crashes. I floated the headphone thing as well, but want to look at all options. TV is on the wall and gifts would be opened on the couch about 8ft away. The tv is the computer monitor.

    Bluetooth :boink:

Look up conference room speakers. They're not perfect but they are intended to reduce the background noise which you can control by turning your speakers down to a level that doesn't get to much feedback.

    Something like this...

Thanks. I ordered that unit to test it out and see if it will do what I need it to. Thanks for the help so far, keep them coming!
