I was lookin in to doing AirForce reserve officer program, but too many hoops to jump through. I ain't got the patience for that shit. And I'm not enlisting either lol.

I spoke to my friend Bryan and he says the Coast Guard has the 2nd hardest basic training behind the Marines

 

I did Air Force JROTC in high school. I was going to apply to the Air Force Academy, but I decided to become a civilian mechanic instead. Did that for a few years then enlisted in the Army as an infantryman.

 

Cant take it personal once you are in, But its allowed. Now if you never served cant roast any branch without pissing off veterans..

 

I kinda wish I had done a ROTC but I played volleyball for school and club all in high school and then a year in college. Now I'm too many years out of college to enlist with a bunch of shit headed 18 year olds lol. I was looking in to it heavily at the end of last year before I got my new job. Had I not gotten this new job, I'd likely have pursued it more.

 

True. Doesn't bother me that much, but most vets get real butthurt when a civilian roasts other servicemembers, regardless of branch.

 

It's not that bad. I celebrated my 25th birthday in basic training.

If I had a shit paying job and was miserable, I'd have been more likely to do it. But it's not worth it for me now. Only way I'd do it is if I were to get in to OTS, but that's very very unlikely.

 

It's not about the money. I took a massive pay cut to join.

Signing bonuses are given over a period of time rather than a $20k deposit right?

 

Nope. Mine was 50% deposited upon completion of basic and the rest after completion of MOS school. It was subject to income tax, though.

I joined during the surge. There was a guy in my basic who had a $40k signing bonus.

Security Forces is the largest MOS field in the Air Force. They have all sorts of different activities. A lot don't do very much.

 

We may all poke and prod each other and our given service branches but in the end, we all gave of ourselves and had similar experiences that we can share and relate too. There's a certain respect in that. If they broke a nail unboxing their rifles in boot camp then I'm okay with them calling me a crayon eating jarhead.
