    Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker for a while but wanted to ask advice. I dropped a tool and got my first real scratch on my 2018 off-road. I think its most clearly coat. Will a clear coat pen take care of it? Thanks for your help!

    Lenny

Try some rubbing compound first. Probably just in the clear.

I think if you used it more and got it dirty, you wouldn't be able to notice it much.

The trick is to get so many scratches it doesn’t matter anymore. It’s actually quite liberating

Touch up paint, touch up clear coat, a plastic razor blade, and some rubbing compound.

If its just in the clear, put some touch up clear coat on it, flatten/scrape the extra with the plastic blade. Then hit it with the rubbing compound.

If its into the color too, then put the touch up paint, then do the rest of what I said.

But im no expert, so it may make it look worse (mine looked better after I did this)

You need to use the compound first unless you want to clear over that dark portion of the scratch and make it permanent.

Lenny, I would take a rock or a piece of mossy tree bark, and work that scratch a little harder

Dropping the tool story. We need to change that! :anonymous:

Wash it. Wax it. Forget about the scratch. Get it dirty, get it scratched, go play in the woods, Then wash it. Wax it from time to time.

people be all like “aw what a shame your truck is all muddy and you just waxed it yesterday” I’m like “I waxed it to protect it, not to make it look nice, you goon. Now get out of here before I call the cops on you, lady”

It appears that your truck is silver. Silver is a hard color to match. It also appears that the scratch is in the base coat. Chances are really good that a touch up in the area that is scratched will show up more that just leaving it alone. You might carefully try Meguiar's Scratch X. It is a mild abrasive, but you can still mess up using it. Rubbing compound is not your friend.

Consider applying the "five foot rule". If you can't see it at five feet, it isn't there. Wise advice from an old perfectionist.

Do not take the truck to the mall because that scratch will really stick out .
