Last time I went in to Harbor Freight they had a recall posted on many of their jackstands. They all had the same failure point.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the failure point on the recalled jack stands had to do with their pawls disengaging from their extension lifting posts. The failure mentioned in OP's link is entirely different with it being the weld seam failing on the jack stand frames.

Half my hf jackstands have sheered roll pins in the release handle so you have to stick your finger in the wedge to use or release them.

I just returned mine today for the recall, the manager asked if I wanted to swap them out for the new model and I laughed and said " I don't want to be the reason for the next recall"

Never buy cheap tools when your life depends on it. You can get away with a cheap screwdriver or measuring tape, but for jack stands, jack, lift, no thanks

Buy cheap shiz, you influence the market and acceptance of cheap shiz.

I had this happen years ago to one of mine for some reason. When I used it and set the height the pawl wasn't fully engaged (I didn't notice) and the pawl jumped out and the support dropped down as soon as the vehicle was lowered onto it! I don't understand how it failed like that, but I now have a set of the Esco that use a pin.

Always get the one with the Pin...
    Always.

And still leave the jack under it as a secondary safety.
