I am here for the long haul, that is if my tacoma lasts 20 years...sure it will!

So any respectable luthier or guitar tech is going to give you sometime to make adjustments, at least I do. Usually about a week. In fact if you had it set-up and the Luther did a neck adjustment, odds are it wasn't done moving until about 48 hour after. The rod is under a lot of tension usually, and the wood moves. Being close to the beach, I know HB well, your guitar is a lot more susceptible to the neck moving and the wood tightening up or loosening. The moisture in the air, the salt, the temperature fluctuations, it all plays a part. I'd take it back to the guy and ask for an adjustment, it should take 2 minutes tops if the setup was done correctly in the first part, maybe a slight intonation adjustment too.

Get yourself something with a humbucker, that is a solid piece of wood. Remember, QOTSA used to hide their gear and purposefully used off the wall stuff to sound different. Lots of overdrive! Seen it first hand. Heavily used the Fulltone Ultimate Octave. That is their sound!Used Les Paul? Perfect.

RATM, Tom is a cool guy. He uses a simple rig, with pedals you can usually find used at guitar center on any given day. Whammy pedal and a digital delay is what you need effect wise. He uses primarily a humucker guitar, but also a HSS Strat Style. He just had a signature model produced by Fender.

In person, his tone is JUST like the records. Why? He uses the same amp that he used to record the first RATM record.

Sidenote: Best tone I've ever heard in person was Jerry Cantrell a couple years ago in Paris. HOLY SHIT, what an amazing rig. Dual Friedman amps for the win. He actually has TWO identical rigs, not just backups built into one rig, that he travels with. In other words his amp rig is half of the stage, lol.

So, the problem here is the pickup ring. The two coils of the pickups are level with each other. The pickup ring that it is mounted too is not.

You can swap the rings (pretty easy to do) with a flat one, or take that one off and sand it level on the one end. This will also help your tone and add some more bass back to that pickup. Usually on pickup swaps the ring comes off with the pickup. So now the tech has the pickup mounted to the ring with spring pushing it to different ways. So one screw comes out before the other, and BOOM the ring breaks (all are cheap plastic nowadays, some are metal), he grabs a ring from the spares box and it ends up on your guitar.

Brand new Gibson Les Pauls come from the factory like this! It really is a flaw. The neck pickup usually has this ramp (like yours) but the other way. Sometimes you can flip it around and level it out, but the proper way is to take it out entirely, put some double stick tape and sand paper on the top of the guitar, and sand the ring to a flush and level fit where the pickup is level to the strings.

Now setting the pickup level itself....oh man thats for another post....

Thank you I will do that when I change strings and mount it correctly.

Love cantrell, have you seen his "dad band" vid?
    Omg what a crack up.

    Edit
Oh, stew mac for the straight mount?
Was just steered towards them recently.
Or any other suggestions where to find one.
I checked it out real good with a flashlight and yes, the mount is angled.
    Thanks

There's a big difference between Bill Lawrence and "Bill Lawrence USA" pickups, got a pic? The fun of ripping on a guitar doesn't change with the two, still the legitimate ones kick @$$!

Oh nice mod hack with the toothpicks - the foam in pickup boxes was what I used for humbuckers that sat wonky in the old time mod-addict days and your ears will tell you if the pickup needs height / angle / bass / treble adjustment

Haven’t seen the dad band video I will check it out!

stewmac is a great resource for parts! Luthiers Mercantile as well. But a common brand that a lot of tech stock besides oem parts is AllParts. Readily available on Amazon.

video from a 4 beer practice last night. getting better after not jamming for months. I kinda like taking videos of practice because I can gauge how much beer I can drink before it starts to suffer.
