Looking for some advice I have a 3 inch lift in the front with some Bilstein 5100’s and OME 886 the ride is suprisingly decent but after getting fox’s in the rear I really want to get some coil overs for the front. I have a steel bumper and winch which weighs down the front so I was wondering if anyone has used the fox 2.5 designed for a 4 inch lift with a softer spring to bring the lift down to 3 inches if so how is the ride and what is your spring rate?

Sorry should have made it more clear I’m thinking of getting a coil over meant for a 4 inch lift but using a softer spring so the slouch would bring it down to about 3 inches and was just wondering if anyone has done that and how the ride was and would bottoming out be easier than with a stiffer spring?

Ok, so maybe you are referring to the 4-6" Lift Fox 2.5 Coilovers? Those will not work. They have a much longer extended and collapsed length designed to be used with a drop bracket lift. Getting a "softer spring" will not help your situation either. Shoot us a message if you would like some more clarity.

Did you mean long travel instead of drop bracket?

EDIT: Oh! Maybe you meant rear shocks used with a typical drop bracket kit.

No, the 4-6" Lift Coilovers from FOX, are an OEM fit shock specifically made for the drop bracket lift kits. Long travel kits use a universal fit type coilover, just with specific lengths and hose routing for the LT kit. The OP messaged us, and I think we're on the same page as far as options go.

At first I was confused why a drop bracket kit would need new front shocks seeing as the total suspension travel is the same, but then I realized that it’s likely that the shock mounts on the frame are not also lowered via a bracket, thus a longer shock is required or at least a longer shock end rod or whatever it’s called.

Thats correct. Most of the drop brackets out there, will come with a massive spacer in btw the top of the coilover and the frame side, basically re-using the stock coilover. The Fox 4-6" version, makes up for that spacer and is a longer overall coilover.

    Fox 2.5 Coilover (4-6" Lift)
    • Product Extended Length: 26.25
    • Product Collapsed Length: 20.45

    Fox 2.5 Coilover (0-3" Lift)
    • Product Extended Length: 22.480
    • Product Collapsed Length: 17.590
