2020 Tacoma Engine Auto Turn Off

Hi all. I have a 2020 Taco. When I am parked for 30 minutes five or take, the truck turns off. I read that it's an safety mechanism Toyota put in.
My question is, can this function be turned off? And if so how? I have looked through YouTube and I have done Google searches with no specific answer. Can someone help me out with this?

 

I do know that if you sit with the radio on for 20 minutes, it will shut off. Haven't tried it with the engine running.

 

Why would you need to have your truck running that long while parked? I can't see that doing your truck any good... Not to mention the waste.

 

I see where he's coming from. I work in Arizona and my car is my office. I idle a lot. In my fusion as long as I tap the break every now and then it will stay on.

Had to use my Tacoma while the fusion was in the shop (because ford) and I did the same thing and it kept the engine running.

I'm sure with an ecu reflash or something you could disable this feature.

I agree long term idling is probably no good, which is why I typically only do it in the car that belongs to my job.

 

In Miami, it gets between 97 & 105 with humidity. At times when working, I sit in my truck to work with the engine running.

Trade it in for a 2016, I've sat idling for hours on a wood lot ( for home firewood) using my winch to pull logs to my buddies to buck up. I was amazed at how little fuel it used at 500 rpm.

 

This is just going to throw the heat back at ya..

 

Interesting, my 18 does not shut off the engine or the radio.

 

I combed through the owner's manual for the word "turn off" and did not see a reference to this. Same with searching for "30 minutes". The only major auto shutoff is for lights/fuel pump after being in accessory or start mode for 20mins.

Do you have a factory or aftermarket remote start?

 

My truck will idle for 8 hours some days. That’s why I bought a Toyota

So the solution should be that the radio makes engine noises. With the ability to custom pick your engine sounds. A range from fart cannon rice burner up to 18 wheeler, UFO (Jetson's car), and jet engine

If I ever own an electric car it would have to make fake engine sounds

 

I would hack it to make Gary Busey noises.

 

I programmed my old garmin to the Gary busey and drove across the country.

 

Had a 2018 without this. Got my new 2023 and it shuts down after about 30 mins or so in park…new safety feature. Be nice to permanently disable
