For those of you who bought the OEM grille, how did you remove the grille peice that comes in the slot where the garnish eventually goes? Just opened the box and it looks like its held in by the star lock washers. Any tricks in getting them off/ can the washers be reused or should I go ahead and by some more for the actual garnish once I install it?

I just installed my TRD Pro grille last night. When trying to remove the garnish cover that comes on the Grille... I broke the posts off, along with the star lock nuts. I could not get them off to save my life. Even tried a hammer and nail set. Those things weren’t budging.

Broke those off with as little damage to the actual grille as possible. Unfortunately my garnish sits loosely in place now. I need to find star lock washers to hold it tighter. Mine will angle up towards the sky a little when I apply the star locks. Apparently this is OEM? Can anyone confirm?

I MIGHT try to put some rubber washers on the posts before installing to make it more flush, but I’m not too concerned with that. People will see the grille from far away, no one should care if the garnish is angled upwards a little.

Good luck with your star locks, they suck to remove!
