Someone asked a similar question a couple years ago, but the thread derailed and the OP was never actually answered. So let me ask here.

I have a 2016 Tacoma SR5 4WD 4-cyl. It did not come with a tow package. I installed a hitch on it already myself. Now I want to install a tow wiring kit so I can have lights to be able to tow a small trailer (I'll easily be under the 3,500 limit while towing, I am not worried about all those extras you get with the factory tow kit like trans cooler, big battery, etc. - I just want wiring for the lights).

I like the clean factory look where the multi-pin (7pin/4pin) connector is in the rear bumper next to the license plate. I would like to buy a tow wiring kit and one of those connectors (the truck just has a dummy connector there now - need to replace it with a real one). I realize I'll never need the 7pin side, but I like the position of the connector and the clean look so I want to use it.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket wiring harness and wired it to one of those mult-pin connectors? If so, could you share any tips, parts # of what you bought, etc?

I'm looking at these two things - but I'm questioning how the wiring kit (which comes with the 4-pin plug) can connect to the 7/4 pin connector that goes on the bumper... do I need some kind of pigtail?

Thanks for any hints or help.

I emailed the eTrailer.com folks - haven't heard anything from them as to how to do this, either.
