I’m looking at a 1988 Ford-150 as sort of a project to mess around with because it’s super cheap. What do you guys think about the rust? The body only has too rust spots, and it looks like the frame is mostly surface rust but I’m not sure. The frame isn’t boxed so I’m not worried about the trapped dirt and water rusting it from the inside out.

It may be very hard removing nuts and bolts if you plan on working on it. That’s pretty rusty. But if it’s cheap and you don’t plan on working on it then.....why not.

I'm used to rusty bolts. My tacoma spent its entire life in the northeast and I can't really fix anything on it without breaking at least one bolt. I'm more worried about the structural integrity of the frame.

Then it sounds like it needs the hammer test, like Toyota does for frame replacement.

Yup I think I’m gonna make the trip out to see it. It’s not a boxed frame so I’m not super worried, it mostly seems like surface rust. Just wanted to see if anyone had an experience with fords and rust. But for a 30 year old truck in the salt belt it looks damn good I’ll say that.
