Hm. This power steering return line seems...non-oem.

Welp.... looks like we’re done until I get home from work on July 19th. Pinion needs to go a little deeper, but I ran out of backlash adjustment without ordering new shims. I head to work on Sunday, so no hope of getting it done before then in addition to everything else I have to do before I leave! This was my final pattern. 53B3454D-12F7-4526-AB0B-638CA5EDD884.jpgFA122B6A-8499-42F1-8579-45E563F7BCF5.jpg

Speedo isn’t a concern. It’s the low gear high load lugging with the supercharger I want gone.

I went with 2 CVJ axles about 4 years ago, both had the orange/red high angle inner boots on them with the cheaper outer boots. The one I installed on the driver side is still going strong, 45K on it. But the one on the passenger side did not last very long at all, less than 2 years. Not sure why it failed so quickly, it split along one of the outer ridges but its failure left a sour taste for spending the extra bucks.

Here is what Dan was referring to. That is paint, not green paper wrap.

    _MG_9864.jpg

This makes sense to me. Especially when we know that the OEM green wrap comes off with age and handling. It is just paper glued on to the shaft.

It may be that CVJ paints them because enthusiasts get so hung up on the green color being the true identifier of an OEM axle. FWIW, CVJs definition of a legitimate core has no mention of exposed shaft color. Instead, their criteria focuses on the shape of the inner bearing housing.

    _MG_9868.jpg
    _MG_9869.jpg

Here are the two axles that were on my truck when I purchased it with 36K on it back in '06. The one with the grean paint in the shaft is one of the two we just rebooted last week The one without the green paint is the one I just pulled off the truck. IMO, they are both OEM.

    _MG_9863.jpg
    _MG_9866.jpg

This is the CVJ remain that had the torn oragne boot on it that we rebooted last week. IMO, it too is OEM. But as you can see, the green wrap is coming off. Underneath the paper the texture of the shaft surfaces are all virtually identical even though the coloring is not.

    _MG_9860.jpg
    _MG_9861.jpg

All three axles in this post meet CVJs definition of a legit OEM core.

I found what can happen to a diff lock actuator when it goes unused for 10+ years. Now I see why the ECU burned out trying to run this thing - the internal wiring was one big electrical short. The o-ring seals pried off in crumbling bits, and, hey, isn't there supposed to be some kind of grease in there? So I spent all day yesterday trying to clean it up and rebuild, but no go - the motor windings are shot. After a week of trying to rewire and sort this out I am all in on this project, so I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy a whole new actuator assembly. Wanted to stay OEM as much as possible, but $700 for the Toyota brand is a bit much, so I'll go with the Aisin SAT-008 at the still ridiculous price of $300+ - don't want to go with a junkyard part for this because the old ones are always crusty and questionable anyway...

So I got the AGM installed a few mins ago.
If the alternator is bad, how long do you reckon this battery will last before it's dead?

Driving it to work tonight and throwing some jumper cables in the back seat.

Should I drive with all my lights on to pull as many amps from the battery as possible?
