After cycling through two 3rd gens and a 5th gen 4Runner, I finally just bailed for the Tundra. I live and drive mostly in the mountains and the lack of power and constant shifting really irritated me.

Pictures of the old Tacoma and the new Tundra. I am really liking the new truck so far, and having the extra bed space will be nice. I will miss the locking diff, but I will have to add that later.

Thanks. I am also a member over there already, but it seems like it is a bit more active here. I am looking forward to starting some mods on the truck.

Are you in the right section? The 3rd gen tundras section is really active. Not quite as active as the 2nd gen Tacoma’s over here though. But still plenty of action. Plenty of mods to go!

Very nice truck! I lurk a lot on Tundras.com (and here, haha) and it’s hilarious how so few of the threads are related to issues/problems with the trucks. These Tundras are high quality machines and the lack of “Problem/Help” threads shows that. I’d love to be able to park one next to my 2nd Gen Taco at some point.

Majority are just mpg threads lol

But yeah, other than the cam tower leak sticky, there's barely ever any "problem/help" threads

I think you'll like it. You'll spend a LITTLE more on gas. Last time I did the math it was something like 7 gallons more to drive a Tundra 1000 miles than any other 1/2 ton. But the money you save by NOT paying for repairs will more than offset the extra fuel used.

Rad Tundra. I have a gray Softopper and I actually think your black one looks better.

Coming from a 16mpg Tacoma a 16 mpg Tundra would be perfectly acceptable, haha.

It does seem like a very well built vehicle so far. Honestly, better than the 3rd gen taco, but similar to the 5th gen 4Runner.

Ya, I looked into the cam tower, and decided to take the risk. Other than that the problems seem to be one off.

So far I am getting 18.1 average. I was getting 19 in my 3rd gen Taco, so definitely worth it. I drive mostly I. The mountains loaded with gear, and the taco just did not have the power to do it.

The grey looks good too though. Also, those bronze wheels look great on white.

I am getting 18.1 so far. I know that will probably drop to 16 once I lift and armor, but this truck is a lot better equipped to handle the weight and elevations that I primarily drive at.

I had a 08 with cam tower leak since starting at 20k. I didnt trust a dealership to tear the motor down so I decided to live with it. Towed real heavy with it for another 100k and it never got worse than a dampness that I wiped off at every oil change. But I have seen some leak enough to drip on the exhaust mani and stink. But at no time did that keep from buying a new 19.

And the trans shift points are perfect on the Tundra. Rarely do I wish it was in a different gear.

I could deal with that. I also do not tow, or run the truck hard at all really. Hence the 18.1mpg so far.

As far as I read, this seemed like it was often the case. I bought my new truck with 26K and the drivetrain warranty is good for another 18 months. All I can hope is that is shows up before then, or it is a minor deep, or I can afford it if it happens. I decided the risk was worth it. And so far, I love this fucking truck.

with kings at 2”, 285s, a winch/bumper combo at 200lbs, full skids including the massive 38G gas tank, I went from 18 to 16. Way better than any of my tacos/fjs/4runners with those kind of mods.
