Dont they have to safety check them annually? I mean the military should be strict about the care. But I will take the surplus option off the table. They keep you on probation for your first 6 months. Like being a rookie lol. I might not need it until after then, especially if I'm assigned to the warehouse. Everyone says it's slow in there. Plus you have to go through the gate to get in.

From what I experienced, we would check the dates on the body armor plus whatever the good idea fairies would tell us infantry knuckle draggers to do. For soft armor it's just a quick visual check if it's falling apart and a pinky promise from joe that he hasn't washed it. For ceramic plates its a quick visual check, 'ugga dugga' folding test to listen for ceramic cracks, and another pinky promise from joe that he hasn't dropped his plate carrier on the floor (they all get dropped). And that's with deployment armor, for training it's just a quick punch in the chest and back and make sure there's something solid in there. When it goes to surplus auction it all gets lumped together anyways.

so yeah hard no on the surplus lol

I don't know anything about aftermarket body armor but just like anything else there are plenty of options that require a lot of research. Curious to see where you end up in your search so keep us updated if you don't mind.

Thanks right now won't be making much money but I've wanted to work in security for awhile. I had to wait for a couple years to pass the background check bc of some mistakes I made when younger lol. But if I can make Sargent then I can really make some money. Sargents have the best tactical gear in the company haha. I can have option to carry firearm if make my way hi enough
