I posted on a few tacoma Facebook groups and got some good info but figured i'd give this a shot as well.

We are pool contractors and have a dedicated work truck with a rack and side boxes and long bed on our tundra and its the company workhorse. My dad's truck is set up with a camper shell and since he's set to retire in a couple years and he no longer does the long and dirty days, that works well for him for the time being (he's in a 2019 f150)

I'm posting on here because of my situation. I have a 2019 doublecab short bed that came with a factory tonneau and it was great but I hated that the last piece didn't fold so I bit the bullet and got a camper shell. I though all my problems would be solved but they weren't.

Don't get me wrong, I love the camper shell and if i wasn't in this line of work, i'd totally keep it.
But I need something functional for now while I get a dedicated work truck.

So... what are your guys work truck setups like? I don't need a rack or a tool box really. I just want a tonneau cover that disappears and gives me easy access to the bed.

In my head, a perfect setup would be the retrax cover with t-slots so i can add crossbars and potentially a basket as well so I can load stuff on that too.
    Any feedback on retrax covers?

    Thanks!

I work for a GC as a jack of all trades.

I use a SnugTop Rebel. But I completely get if you might not wanna drive around with a back window open. A big thing for my shell is the windoors. Without those, I wouldn't be able to use it for work and camping like I do. I think they're absolutely essential.

For my uses, a shell was the only option for work. Having a bed cover would inhibit the bed use too much for me, and I also camp in the back when I'm not working.

EDIT: I also have the 6ft bed, so that is another factor.

Have you looked into the backflip bed cover?

I like it because you can lock everything up when you need to and if you ever need to put taller things in your bed you can easily take it off or fold it up.
