The best experience with a shipping company was with Daylight transportation LLC last December when I had my race engine shipped from New York to my friends shop . They kept me informed with tracking info and estimated arrival . They even delivered it using l/gate as quoted and the driver was very professional and nice

I'm curious to know how to jumped to the conclusion that it's because of lazy people. Major corporations can't even get toilet paper on the shelves consistently after 3 months of this and you think the delay in your freezer gasket is because of "lazy people". IMO poeple have become impatient and whiny children.

It's amazing that the regular UPS and USPS drivers do a better job than Fedex and Amazon do. It's almost like workers with a union to back them up do a better job than contractors that have to meet unreasonable delivery expectations.

Well it’s now whining if your are losing thousands of dollars of product. Especially when I called the parts company and they said Fed Ex has not been there to pick up the part yet. And when the USPS lady won’t get out of her truck to drop off the package, that’s lazy. If it will not fit in the mail box she will leave a slip to pick it up at the post office. That’s lazy. My house is a whopping 200 ft from the road and she is not capable of drivI guess down the driveway, where I have a place to turn around, to deliver a package, that’s lazy. Fed Ex drops my neighbors package at the road, That’s lazy. UPS will bring the package to my back porch so other won’t see a package sitting by at the front door. Now that’s how to do business. Protect your customers and keep them happy, build an empire.

I guess that’s how I can say they are lazy, but your results may vary depending on where you live.

Not sure if anything has changed, but I had an experience with UPS that will make me avoid them from then on out. They delivered a beaten package, it was a metal grille that had been bent due to the handling and wasnt fixable. Apparently UPS does not insure against damages due to handling. The vendor was a stand up guy, sent me another I just paid for shipping, with USPS this time.

I loathe Fed-Ex, they constantly lose my packages, just ordered some interior doors for the house and absolutely cringed when I received a shipping notice saying Fed-Ex.

To me it's on the vendor to pick a shipping company and level of service that will get their goods to the customer in the appropriate condition. That means they should read the terms of any services they pay for. As a customer the vendor is responsible to make sure I get the goods I purchase in expected condition. If something happens while the goods are in the custody of the shipping it's not my problem, that's between the vendor and the shipper.

The vendor is free to pass the cost of those services on to the customer either built into the price of the goods or as an upcharge but if they cheap out and don't pay for insurance or don't realize the insurance they thought they had doesn't cover them, that's a vendor problem. From my experience and reading the terms of UPS shipping insurance, if you pay for insurance, any damage while in their custody is covered.

It's not that absurd. Big corps will typically have an ignore the issue approach so that it doesn't cost them. Like you said the vendor ends up eating the cost and that's obviously due to vendors which are typically small businesses caring more about customer service than their big shipping corp counter part. Even banks wont handle fraud issues properly until you get a police report. If someone had to sign for delivery the question is where was it delivered? FedEx obviously wont do a whole lot or even bother investigating until someone gives them a little persuasion.

I agree, fuck Fedex, their logo is amazing, most other parts of the business are trash.

I ordered a new phone and it shipped Fedex. Got a delivery attempt notice at the scheduled time but no slip and my roommate who was expecting the delivery and had the front door open didn’t see a truck. My house is as far southwest in San Diego as you can go, $25 says they hit the delivery attempt button from the interstate 3 miles away.

But Fedex is a shitty company that classifies their drivers as independent contractors despite the fact that they supply all the equipment, set the working hours and the drivers aren’t free to take other work.

    FWIW, direct from UPS' site:

When a shipper declares a value in excess of $100, it does not receive any form of insurance. Insurance for in-transit goods is available through UPS’s licensed affiliate UPS Capital Insurance Agency, Inc.

    https://www.ups.com/us/en/shipping/services/value-added/declared-value.page

    Declared Value
UPS is liable for loss or damage, at no extra cost, for up to $100.00 for each domestic package, international shipment, or pallet in a UPS Worldwide Express Freight® shipment, where there is no declared value. If the value of your goods exceeds this amount, you can declare up to $50,000 per package or $100,000 per pallet (subject to terms and conditions) by entering the declared value when you create a shipment on ups.com and paying an additional charge. Certain domestic packages are eligible for the enhanced maximum declared value of $70,000, subject to restrictions set forth in the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service. Please note that these amounts are in U.S. dollars. When a shipper declares a value in excess of $100, it does not receive any form of insurance.

    Learn More About Declared Value

    Insurance
Insurance for in-transit goods is available through UPS’s licensed affiliate UPS Capital Insurance Agency, Inc. The supply chain insurance professionals at UPS Capital can work with you to customize an affordable policy based on what you ship and how you ship your goods. Or, you can obtain transactional coverage for single shipments only. Benefits include:

    • Customizable policies to cover your in-transit and warehoused goods
    • Reimbursement up to the sales price of the goods
    • Coverage for most risks including acts of God
    Contact a Licensed Insurance Agent

The item that was damaged was shipped with a well know vendor on this site, with little in the way of complaints. Not disagreeing with your point of view in any way, just UPS is not always clear when you ship that the declared value is not actually imposing any insurance on the package itself. Rather, it does the opposite. You need to ship with their affiliate to get actual insurance.

Our pharmacy does a large mail order service. Most go USPS, but narcotics go overnight with signature. We had a FedEx contract and continually had packages go missing. Just disappear off the truck. Since switching to UPS, we’ve had a lot fewer issues.

I would imagine our problem was mostly due to local people, but after filing complaint after complaint and even involving LE multiple times, FedEx never fixed the issue. Leadership was definitely lacking somewhere. UPS has been better for us as we do not like dealing with the DEA on a regular basis.

Personally though, other than my previous post, I’ve had above average luck with all of them.

That says if you declare a value they don’t care, you have to pay for actual insurance via their affiliate insurance company. Declared Value is for businesses that have insurance coverage for their goods via a separate company.

But the TW custom grill vender, super cool guy BTW, worked with you to make sure you were happy. I know it sucks to pay shipping a 2nd time, but between the 2 of you, a plan was established to work out for both of you.

Yes, I guess maybe I wasnt clear, but I was trying to say that it's something they do that most people believe insures or values it at a certain amount so that if it were to get damaged it would be covered as such. I ship a lot and some UPS shops even say that when I've asked the reason why anyone would declare it for more. Its common to ask why would I declare it over $100 and they have told me in case of damage on numerous occasions. Implying that it some how covers its value, when it doesnt.

The reality is yes, you have to use their affiliate, but how often have you encountered that question when receiving from another member or vendor? "Would you like me to insure it with UPS Capital"? It also adjusts the price enough that most would pass. It's kind of an assumption, that I learned, that I brought up only to share with anyone who might not realize it.

Meanwhile USPS does insure their packages directly without an affiliate for very little up charge for reasonable means of insurance. Fedex ironically uses their declared value mark up to value to the insurance coverage, at $1 per $100 value. It appears the same as UPS only they arent just using it for business means and it is an actual shipping insurance. Basically they both offer a direct form of insurance at the moment of purchase rather than a slightly vague allusion to insurance or requiring you to contact another company before shipping to apply for insurance.

EDIT - Looks like I was wrong. If you have a passable road and are within 1/2 mile of the route they are supposed to attempt delivery to the door but you may have to be home for that. Call them and ask.
    ****

She may be lazy - I don't know her - but it may be regulations; which when it comes to USPS are pretty close to law. Maybe ask the post office as you may find out that your mailbox is on a public right of way or some other regulation applies saying they can't leave anything outside the box.
