Bizarre day, went for an oil change for my 2.7 2009 PreRunner 240,000 miles and the tech claims he only drained 2 quarts out. I have never seen oil on the ground at home or work. Do you think it was straining because my driveshaft was straining for a few months (I got lucky and Toyota replaced the driveshaft for free). I really need some help on this, if I do have small leak is there an additive to stop it, I have been running full synthetic. TIA

Did tech accidentally drain transmission fluid?

Two quarts would not give you any oil pressure. Sig45 is right on - the idiot drained your trans pan. Check your oil dipstick and I bet it's way overfilled.

I thought that was only an issue with the 4.0 V6? Or does the 2.7 have the engine and trans drain plugs close together also?

Look into the transmission fluid like these guys are mentioning, but something worth noting is that these 2.7Ls tend to start burning oil after 200k. The lighter rings Toyota seems to be using lose their tension and let oil past the rings and your engine burns it. If everything with the transmission checks out start keeping an eye on your oil level.

Then you’re burning oil. Check out the 4 cylinder section. Couple guys are rebuilding their motors @~250k because of it. Keep the oil topped off and it’ll keep going.

    This is not uncommon.
It seems it’s more common with 0w-20 trucks.

And No, I’m not at all saying you are using the wrong oil.
I’m not an engineer. I am just stating what I’ve seen reported.

2 quarts is not enough to keep the oil pressure and not suck the pan dry. The tech must have been mistaken.

Get a new pcv if you haven’t changed it in a while. The old one should rattle.

I think you'd be surprised. I've had customers come in complaining their engines ran like shit, with it having like 2 quarts in the pan. The oil was so low that the VVTI system wasn't working properly due to a lack of oil pressure causing the engine to run poorly, yet the oil light didnt come on. IMO typically by the time the oil light comes on theres usually some damage since with these dummy switch oil sensors the aerated oil pressure can be enough to keep them off.

I agree the oil pressure light is useless, it doesn't come on until oil pressure drops to 1-2psi, by then it's too late.
