Smokey is better at it than Toni; he caught a vole about 10 minutes in.

After two bad days Ginger began to improve. She's still a very sick kitty, but with no drugs on board at the moment she is calm, comfortable, and somewhat active. She wants to sit on the patio all day, and so we have decided to let her for a while. We took her to the vet today for a follow-up ultrasound and general check – instead of the planned euthanasia - and the news was neither good nor bad. She did not build up any more fluid since last week, so it's apparently a slow process. Her left lung looks good. One lobe of her right lung has not re-inflated, and that is apparently the main source of her diminished breathing at the moment. The mass has not changed. All her other values are normal. She is still not eating as much as we would like, but she must be nibbling enough when we aren't watching as she only lost a couple of ounces - and that could just be the difference between a full and empty bladder. In any event, we all agreed that she does not seem to be in any discomfort other that being tired and getting winded easily, and we can attest to the fact that she enjoyed movie night on the patio last evening, so we're going to start a steroid to make her feel a bit better and perhaps shrink the mass a little. It's still only a temporary solution, and we don't plan to take it any farther than that, but hopefully she will be able to enjoy the summer before she has to go. With me working from home at least until early September, I can easily keep an eye one her.

At the moment we are enjoying the summer morning together. I am reading about Hobbits while Ginger sleeps next to me. Not too bad.

So glad to hear she is showing signs of improvement and she is stable. Hope she is able to last the summer while you have some real quality time with her.
BTW Looks like a tough day at work for you guys :)

Ha...I'm actually on PTO for a couple of weeks. My company is "encouraging" us to take time now and not save it all until things return to normal...assuming they do. I've been with the same company for 25 years this month, so I have a lot of vacation to use. The timing of this and working from home in general have helped us deal with Ginger's situation. I plan to start attending conference calls from the patio

Same deal with me too. I’ve been with mine for 30 years so I’ve got a pretty good PTO balance. Decided to retire next month so the cash payout should be pretty good. No doubt that money will be going right back into the economy :)
