No, not quite sure where it would be or if I'll even be able to make it happen just yet. It would be for a work opportunity.

I'm worried I wouldn't be happy there because of how spoiled I've been with having the sierras so close by. They really are my second home and I get into them as often as possible. I could care less about the beach but I don't know how I could make it without mountains.

it's not alpine but it is pretty. I'd imagine lots of mud in the spring and winter months, or is it all rocky?

Dude. Texas is the worst state if you're looking for public lands.

    Wheelin? - Offroad parks only.
Big bend is all we got and those trails get old quick.
Camping? - State Parks and two (three debatable) National Parks.

    That's a nice view too.

This part of Texas is either:
    A) clay
    B) limestone
    C) an annoying combination of both

Get east of us and that's where the red mud starts - the iron-rich soil that extends all the way to the Carolinas. And a shit-ton of trees; pines, pecans, and everything in between. North of us is black soil (and flat). South of us is alluvial plain (and flat). So, as they told the pioneers - go west young man!!

There are hundreds of state parks not far from major cities that are beautiful, affordable, and offer a lot of outdoor fun. There are also private off-road parks (Hidden Falls is the largest that's close us, and most popular). Then there are simply ranch trails - gravel and dirt roads in various stages of maintenance that, depending on the season, can be a lovely and fun trip. Note that the video on the home page is a bunch of US. Members here on this site, and TTC* members in good standing.

Camping season usually runs late September to late May. Just too hot otherwise - still in the high 70s and humid at night, and no one wants that.

At my age, if it's above 80 degrees outside it better be air conditioned. I wore myself out in combat comm - and when "camping is your life, it's not fun anymore."

Anyway, chat up some of the Austin peeps and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to share with you what all we have happening around here.

    This.

You know when a Mexican joint is good when there are tour busses parked out back full of Mexicans come up to shop.

It’s here, but people only go there for Baja Blast and diarrhea.

If you want bomb-ass tacos, you hit up one of a hundred Taquerias scattered throughout town. If you’re in a hurry, you hit Taco Cabana.

Brisket tacos only have one TRUE home - Valentina’s. Come visit and we will take you for the Real Deal Holyfield.

Too many places for great enchiladas to count.

And don’t get us started on pizza places or breweries.

    Shit.

    Now I’m hungry.

Bumping this argument, CA mex and Tex mex cannot be compared. After coming to terms with Tex mex, they each have their niches. The biggest struggle still is that burritos (common mission style of CA) are cheaper and for me more filling.

On the other side, TX tacos cannot be beat. I enjoy typical street tacos (especially lengua, tripa, cabeza) yet, unable to find them in Austin.. pls chime in.

Respecting the given culture is the first step in understanding flavor. It is the time, sweat, and tears that carries flavor from one culture to another.

You can have a preference, (not directed at Chad) but, appreciating food is appreciating culture.

damn that was a shit storm
