Poll: Leveling kit on a PreRunner?

Discussion in '1st Gen. Tacomas (1995-2004)' started by nchiker1, Jun 23, 2020.

?

Should you install a leveling kit on a PreRunner?

  1. Heck yeah! It would look sweet, and there are other advantages too.

  2. No dude... She's not a 4x4. Let her be who she is, which is still a pretty sweet truck.

I just never understood the aesthetic; trucks had rake because they were designed for load-carrying; sports cars were typically lower in the front to reduce airflow under the car and improve the aerodynamic detachment points, and hot rods were traditionally higher in the rear to clear larger rear tires. Even wheel well heights reflect this - higher in the front, no?
At some point, folks started leveling unladen trucks and I never understood why. Seems a purely cosmetic thing to me; no utility or function intended (which seems antithetical to what a truck is).

here in the Carolinas, it's gone further overboard - raising the fronts and lowering the rear which is ridiculous; I don't understand any of it.

As for real-world reasoning, IFS suspension travel is limited when you pin the arms downward (you actually lose functional travel) - better to do a tapered body lift for that look, IMO; and keep the range of front suspension travel.

    (hey, you asked, lol)

The 1st Gen: All pro 3” lift (650 lbs coils, expedition rears with bilstiens),Timbren rear bumpstops, ubolt flip, diff drop, carrier bearing drop, 33’s on beadlocks ,ARB Bumper, winch, hand throttle, ARE canopy, roof bars, poly bushings all around minus the body mounts. The 2nd Gen: Leveling kit, roll up tonneau cover. 265/75/16’s
Coil overs with ucas or nothing. If you’re going to do that though, you might as well lift it. It’s a slippery slope though. :spending:

Lifted trucks don’t rust anywhere near as fast or badly as trucks hanging low. It’s a scientific fact. (I think) and they are a hell of a lot easier to work on.

Small world, I’m in the Carolina’s too. And I’ve seen those awful monstrosities. It pains me to even look at them!

I understood the practical side of the leveling kits to be that it gives you (slightly) more clearance in the front if you happen to be going off road. No?

Best television ever made! That show rocked and if I remember right, the Cartel were driving lifted trucks. See, you can’t argue with science. Plus with a lifted truck you don’t need a dumb CAI cuz the air is cooler up there. Annnd, june bugs bounce harmlessly off your bumper instead of plugging up your radiator. See?
