I was tired of the tacky chrome wheel covers I was using to try to hide the rust, so matte black it was!IMG_20200616_144122.jpg
I ended up really liking the flat black look and didn't use the clear coat over it. Anybody know any good ways to protect the paint while keeping the look of the flat black?

Prepping the driver side front wheel for primer and paint, I used a 1" coarse wire brush drill attachment to get rid of any deep rust spots, and a dremel with a 220 grit bit to flatten out the grooves created by the rust. Went over it all with 400 grit to try to smooth it out. Blew away all the dust with a compressor and prepped the surface clean with 70% rubbing alcohol.

1st coat of self etching primer.

After the final coat of black. This was the first wheel, I managed to make no drips on any of the others.

After a few hours of drying, I love the finish! They definitely needed more sanding with the 400 though.

Both front wheels removed, I used a jack stand and the factory Toyota bottle jack in the truck.

Second wheel removed, removing all the rust and prepping the surface. IMG_20200618_152103.jpg

    The final result!
