So it shouldn't make noise when the engine is off, clutch in, and moving the shifter side to side?

I don’t normally do that when the engine is off, but I often do it when the engine is on to make sure I’m in neutral before letting the clutch out. No clanking noise.

Yes it is. Well normal for toyota. Like i said i have owned many MT vehicles and none of them did that.

It sounds like somethimg is loose when going over bumps in neutral, but thats just how its designed.

I have my faith in this tranny though, its an aisin afterall.

Strange, most TW members with MTs reported that it clunks when you move the shifter around in neutral. Mine has been doing that since new. Exactly the same noise when going over bumps in neutral, sounds like pots being banged.

Maybe is just a low volume sound you are referring to that I have learned to ignore. My clanking sound is perhaps louder and more unusual.

Every MT vehicle I've owned (5) makes noise when beating around the shifter in neutral. Clutch engaged or not. Not one of them had "issues".

Get someone under your truck. Move the fork boot out of the way a bit. EngageLEngage the clutch a few times. Look and see what the fork/tob is doing.

Im sure its normal, just never had MT vehicle with such loud clunking noise, especially when going over bumps in neutral. Did you ever drive 3rd gen 6spd?

Even my archaic 2007 ranger didnt do that. Felt like that tranny came out of 78 datsun. Haha

Im not worried about it at all though.

Yeah there’s a lot of play in the drivetrain for some reason. I was surprised too. You kinda get used to it and learn to drive it a certain way so it doesn’t clunk.
