I’ve got some cheap Chinese traction boards that I use and they work pretty well as a shovel in the snow. I’m 6’4” though, so bending over with a tiny shovel is just frustrating and more strain on my already screwed up back than I need. I plan on quick fisting the shovel to the spare tire once I get a rear bumper with a tire swing. For now it lives in my roof box along with my traction boards and other miscellaneous b.s. that will be better organized with my tire swing and a set of drawers.

Floating the gears is a really good skill to learn in the event your clutch goes out in the middle of freakin no where. I actually had to the float the gears of my mustang from Memphis to Knoxville. Luckily once I got on the interstate I never touched them again until I got into Knoxville. But I was leaving a buddies house down there went to back out and a rod connecting the shifter pedal all the way thru the firewall into the master cyclinder snapped like a twig. We rolled the car to where it was facing the road and off I went. 3600.00 repair later never had any trans issues.

a tree saver/tow strap is NOT a snatch strap. Not much need for a tree saver without a winch

As soon as I saw the truck, I told my wife how to get it out. They did exactly what I said.

Yeah. Everyone on TW "Never trust your life to cheap chinesium products!"
Matt, "Hold my beer"... But honestly he keeps showing us we spend to much on shit we barley use.

The new badlands winches get good reviews, and not just by homer pulling his jku up the driveway

    Like, so many.
Man, you are so right. There's an adage about backpacking (which Matt has demonstrated is true in recovery as well) that says,"The more you know, the less you need." That last episode was so good. I love the little things like how he forgot to lock one of his hubs.

KC Hilites, ditch lights, rear light, and under hood light, toolbox light. Also added the fuse block/breaker mod under the hood.
What makes this Jeep so capable beyond the skill of the driver?

The XJ is just a great platform... simple and light weight. The "legendary" 4.0L has a lot of low end grunt along with the simple transfer case (I have a Jeep TJ with the same). There was also the option of a rear Dana 44 axle, although I think Matt is running a Dana 60? Everything is just simple to modify.

I wish I had bought an XJ new back in the day. I was shopping for a used one about five years ago and most were beat to hell, yet pricey. The best one I found was super clean from Florida, and I about cried when I crawled under it and there was no transfer case!
