@Mrs2Fang and I will end up going somewhere for a weekend. Just not sure when that'll be yet.

Meant to add that we burned straight to San Antonio on our first leg to Padre Island, then straight to the beach next morning. We were supposed to leave pretty early on our final day at Padre, but we had a stupid passenger delaying it all, so ended up burning out of the beach at noon, arriving in Houston around 5pm. Dude ruined my chance to visit my 2nd NASA space center. We are never traveling with him again, I think friendships were lost that trip, lol.

For sure, get y'all some family time first, but I meant for all us Taco bros eventually.

Hell I think google even does that. Would be kind of cool to have at the end.

PS - Don't sleep on the Dakotas, the badlands are sweet. Nebraska......Yeah.....

I am a little sad I am not hitting up the Ozarks on this trip. That'll probably be another trip once I get to Texas. That's a 7.5 hour trip from Austin (ballpark, to get to Ozark....) From Providence it's a hair under 24 hours.

That's one thing I'm looking forward to on this trip. The only person that can delay me is my dog. :D

I'm actually hoping to hit up that area on this trip! Edit: Padre area, but also Houston.

Teddy Roosevelt NP in ND is pretty cool.

Badlands of New Mexico > Badlands of South Dakota

There’s some decent stuff on the west side of the Dakotas but there’s other places I’d rather go for driving that many miles.

What part of TX are you moving to? It wouldn't be terribly far from Arkansas to do the Rendezvous in the Ozark event sometime. I definitely want to make it.

    https://www.naturalstateoverland.org/rendezvous-in-the-ozarks-info

And yeah, my roommate and our other friend did our Colorado trip flawlessly. We knew our time constraints and kept on the move until we got to our destination, or packed up quickly enough to get to the next.

This dude was not concerned with any of that at all.

It's a do it once sort of thing so you can say you did it.... :D I would do it straight up and through into Canada and then go west to AK (Or East and go out to PEI maybe, biiiig long trip)

    Agreed though.

Right now, we're wanting to make the hop to Austin. Once we move there, we'll rent and then start exploring the rest of the state. I have a feeling we won't want to live in San Antonio more than Austin, but we'll check out the rest. Dallas, Houson, El Paso, Amarillo, etc.

I will say, New England is pretty cool. Providence - within an hour, I can get to Boston, Worcester, Cape Cod. Make it 2 hours, I can get to basically everywhere in New England, 4 hours and I can get to the Adirondacks in NY, Burlington VT, most of southern Maine, etc.

Texas....4 hours outside Austin, you're still half way to the next big city :p BUT the cities are a lot bigger and have a lot more to them. I especially like the CO river going through Austin.

I used to do a lot of trip planning but now i just pick a general location with a bunch of options and figure it out on the fly. Thats what we did when @uploadadventure and I went to colorado last year. Sometimes you wanna go do stuff, sometimes you just wanna chill and sometimes you find other cool stuff along the way.

Only difficult part about being in middle of Texas is you're in the middle of Texas - its a long drive to get anywhere other than the hill country.

I do love Austin though, and the rest of Texas. Various parts of Texas have been home for most of my life.. Maybe I'll make it back there someday.

    Awesome!

I drove through Dallas, the traffic was AWFUL. Then again, my roommate decided to drive through downtown... during rush hour traffic... after I mentioned we should take these toll roads instead. :notsure:

Would like to visit upper Northeast in my truck. I bet there are BEAUTIFUL spots out there. I flew out to watch the Chiefs stomp the Patriots last year, my only sight seeing were fishing boats. (New Bedford, Providence, etc)

I agree, I don't wanna be stressed out getting places. I want to enjoy what I'm doing in the moment or come across something cool and not worry about time.

The best way to deal with Dallas if you're traveling I-35 is to go around through FW on I-35W. Way less headache.

That's the kind of stuff I like though, so, I'm cool with that :D

and hey, the gulf coast is only a 3ish hour drive to get to a beach. That setup makes me happy.

Thing is, if I can't handle the heat, why would I move somewhere to have 3-4 months I can't do anything, when I already have that? I have a feeling I can handle the heat though......

Some people get stressed out not knowing what they are doing lol

I’m more of a wing it guy myself. Plans are overrated.

    I like both.

Mainly prefer plans, just to make sure I'll have a job when I come back.

Come up in summer or fall. Spring is cool but, meh. Obviously, don't come up for the winter....

Yeah, I will probably want to do a road trip around New England before we leave. Leave Providence, go up to the Adirondacks, out to Burlington VT, east into maine through the green mountains, through northern maine woods, out to down east maine, and then back down the coast out to the cape and then back to Providence. About a week, maybe + a day or two. I will probably stop sub'ing to this thread after my trip so keep me posted if you hit up New England I can give you some recommendations.

Plans are really good if you're trying to herd a group. Solo or with 1-2 others, winging it is a great way to go.

Yep yep, that is true. Lots of great stuff to do in central Texas. Good parks, good people, and limitless great food.

I for one could totally go for a float down the guadalupe today.

    *an hour later*

"Where the hell is ____, ____ and _____?!"

Oh, they're in the walmart toy section - again.
