Hi, I have a new to me 04 5 lug. When I apply the brakes I get a shake / pulsing felt mainly in the seat.

I was taught that when you feel the pulsing on the steering wheel its the front warped rotors and when you feel the pulsing in the drivers seat it's the rear brakes. This advice has been accurate for me to date. However this 04 Taco has drum braked in the rear - can rear drums get warped?

I only feel the pulsing when braking.

    Any suggestions on the culprit?

Try getting your rear drums resurfaced. If that doesn't help maybe just do rotors/pads all around, vibrations can travel in weird ways even if you think it's one way or the other.

While it's not very common for drum brakes to warp, it CAN happen. I would take a look at all four brakes just in case.

pull the parking brake out slowly while driving but keep the handle turned so that it doesn't lock in position... this way you separate the back brakes from the front.
