How to properly calculate Payload

So I thought my payload was 1120#s but looking at the door jam states 1000# am I reading this wrong?

I am trying to tow a double axle travel trailer, NOBO 19.3 with 4120# dry weight and company states a 550# tongue weight (this seems high).

Figure if I have a loaded weight of 4600# at the same 13% tongue weight is just under 600. Or should I calculate it with a lower tongue weight because I can rear load some items?

600 - tongue weight
350 - myself wife dog
50 - bed cover
50 - other gear
1050 - total weight and I’m over!

Next how do I calculate my weight distribution hitch weighs, it weighs 87lbs, is this calculated into tongue weight? Payload? Not at all since it reduces weight in rear axle? Where do I add the 87lbs.

looks like I’m not towing with this truck unless someone can tell me how wrong my calculations are! Wish it was actually 1120 not 1000#s!

 

You are thinking about it right. Add 90 for the hitch and you should have a good estimate.

 

Humm... That’s how I’m reading it too.

It’s kind of odd, but the more stripped the configuration the more capable the truck is (according to these numbers). Double cab adds weight, V6 adds weight, 4x4 adds weight... all working off the same max cassis capacity.

Then on the 2.7L they artificially lower the tongue weight limit to 10% of the 3,500 max towing, even though the chassis can handle 10% of 6,000. So you “can’t” tow 3k with a 400lb tongue weight. So, I’m a little skeptical of the numbers.

Weight distribution hitch is going to add some weight; Not sure about the calculating the full fuel. You can take off the bed cover? Gear in the trailer. I am aiming for 4000k max and duel wheels on the trailer.

 

Other weight reduction; spare tire into the trailer; remove seats and a simple light weight platform for the dog.
