I havent tested that muffler but I did test dual Flowmaster 40s with URD headers and my y-pipe and I hated it.

How loud/quiet are you wanting it?

I know @DocME had tried the chambered Magnaflow (straight through design and liked it alot.

Yep that was still one of my favorites, but I’ve been in a mood to calm down the noise. I might be forced back into exploring new options here shortly for my exhaust as the keg muffler and links compete for space.

I’m fully expecting that black widow to be pretty intense with that upstream setup.

I don’t mind really loud as long as it sounds good. My Buell sets off all the car alarms of near by parked cars, but it sounds killer.

My Stinger screams when I go WOT and I love every second of it, but again, it’s a refined tone with tuned canister Helmholtz resonators.

That first test drive with the Black Widow was embarrassing. It sounds good at an idle and and at a slow cruise around the neighborhood, even revving in park, but we all know that moment when that extra annoying reverberation kicks in with our trucks and that little chambered muffler could not contend.

I just got done with a test drive after reinstalling the big URD Magnaflow and it was a relative pleasure; most significantly compared to the BW, but more importantly better than before when I had the URD Y pipe.

I did a few WOT runs and wasn’t turned off like I was pre Roost Y pipe.
I also know from experience these vibrant resonators soften up a bit as time goes on, so I trust it will get even better. At this point my plans are to install a tail pipe over the axle and then reassess.

The Flowmaster I tried a few years ago was a single Delta 50. I always wondered if having two would have made it sound good. Guess not. I’m only going to entertain mufflers with packing from here on out.

Edit: the best improvement to sound is when I get this thing some boost.

How’re they different? Is it louder with the keg?

I have the same y-pipe back - vibrant resonator to the same magnaflow as the URD. I can attest adding the section going up over the axle was game changing to the in cab sound. I think that and having the pipe exit straight back instead of side exit is one of the bits of magic most exhausts for these trucks are missing imo. I've find the composite beds echo too much sound otherwise

Kinda related - i had a spintech before this in stock location dumped right before the axle. I liked the sound but the way the spintech acts that spot was awful. That and below freezing temps it was almost louder than straight piped between the muffler not heating up and the echo off the bed. The local track officials didn't like it like that either. Although i'm pondering going back to the spintech at some point but wayyy further upstream to make it collect more heat and function better; got a feeling it could be a potent setup if planned well

That vband back tucks up where the spare tire would normally be. Exit's right under that furthest back crossmember. No pics of it on the truck

I'm wondering the same. What didnt you like about the Keg muffler?

With a resonator in front of it, it's almost stock quiet so maybe you wanted more volume?

They are cheaper and not exactly the best flowing (despite their marketing claims) but MAY sound amazing with our setup.
    I havent tested.

Exhaust volume and tone is sooooo subjective that what one person finds amazing and exotic, another finds obnoxious.

It's why I dont recommend any particular muffler.
I got the "Keg" by chance scrounging around a local muffler shop and liked it for its fitment, sound (or lack thereof), flow, and OEM longevity.

It ticks off all the boxes I want for a daily.

If someone wants F1 type sound, we can attempt to achieve that but very difficult to do with half as many cylinder pulses and low redline.

I would imagine that exhaust would sound annoying cruising down the freeway at 2400rpm but amazing at WOT!

Everyone's taste and what they desire is different and there is not a way that I have found to accurately depict an exhaust sound/tone/volume level to please the masses.

Everyone has there preference of the the ideal sound.

    For example:

    Big or small butts?
    Big or small breasts?
    Perky or saggy?
Tight clean vag or one that looks like a grenade was thrown in there?
    Hair or no hair?
    Skinny or voluptuous?
    Skin color (being careful here)?

You get my point. Everyone's preference is different so theres no way to really determine what someone likes without actually listening to what they want live.

I think and this is just a thought, that the Flowmaster and possibly the Black Widow sound good BECAUSE of the unequal exhaust pulses.
An evenly flowing "tuned" exhaust will sound much smoother (equal exhaust pulses) which is not what Flowmasters design was originally intended for.

I have also tried a Dr. Gas freq mod muffler (founder/designer of Spintect who sold the rights to them) which I hated on my application.
Maybe the XL3000 is a winner but I havent tried it.

Here is a pic of the inside of my Dr. Gas test muffler. Yes I cut it open to see how it functioned.
    15935774507526654031055235861186.jpg 15935778435667921277488284705587.jpg
The 3 tubes act to change the frequency of sound before exiting the muffler.
Like I said, I didnt like it for our application.

Power was noticeably down as well but that was before HPTuners and @JustDSM so YMMV.

Hope this helps and not make things more confusing.

I've been slacking (being honest here) but plan on making progress soon!

Had to take a bit of a break to get life stuff in order.

You’re right. I agree the more equal length to the collector of ypipe the better. The 1gr-fe lives for equal pulses. I think that plus two mufflers for a cat back makes for better sound throughout all the rpms. I actually got a dynomax plus a magnaflow and no cats. This combo sounds nice at 65 cruise or WOT. As for being restrictive I’m sure mufflers have come along in the past ten years. But I will say my dynomax looks great for how old it is and got the best vote on XRU after multiple dynos on which mufflers were best years ago. Not sure how thrush rates today though.

Sound clip with the black widow!!

You'd be surprised. As open as the black widow is it has a nice growl without being overbearing, think TRD exhaust without the drone. Looks are deceiving with the black widow.

How did you manage to get your exhaust all close to the driveshaft without going with crazy bends? That's how my setup is right now but I had to create unnatural bends to get it closer to the DS. More pictures of how you got it so close please.
