Fording Depth?

Rear diff mod.
As long as you don't get water into the intake you should be ok

 

Crossed this section of Mojave today, my leveled 3rd gen got a bit of water in the cab, and my buddies lifted 2nd gen was fine.

Looked a little deeper than your photo, definitely deepest either of us had crossed. I went first and pushed a wave, just stayed right behind it the whole time.

No damage or weird noises on the way home, dry intake box too. For sure adding rear diff breather mod and checking the hell out of the truck tomorrow.

 

I went full idiot and not only waded into deep water, but had no recovery gear, no friends, no plan, and no cell service. Water was about mid grille height once it settled in the mid for 2.5hrs. Bad things happened.

Result: siezed alternator, snapped belt, siezed water pump, both wheel bearings shot, calipers are going, both 4x4 actuators, my rack is now leaking, front diff breather leaked, and some stupid phantom electrical problem.

I am now very afraid of any kind of water crossing.

So, I’ve crossed that same section, water was a bit higher than the wheels. Made it through the first time fine, but had to go back for my camera and cross again, and on the third crossing the water cane through the doors and pooled a couple inches. Had to let it drain for awhile, and shampooed the carpet when i got back to civilization.

No diff breather mods, that rear diff would have been hot as hell by the time i crossed it, and no water contamination occurred in any of my gearboxes

 

Where is that? That looks like the ocean in the background, sure hope that wasn't salt water you got stuck in or you're gonna have even more problems down the line

 

That totally sucks, but it IS a lovely shot, really. I'd have it blown up and framed for the garage.

Water crossings are extremely variable and the depth and consistency of the river bottom can change significantly from hour to hour depending on flow and other things. As you can see from the responses here, you can be successful a few times and then not on the exact same crossing on the same day. Use your best judgement!

 

I don't know the answer. But it looks a lot like the Stamp Sands in the U.P. of Michigan. If I'm right, then that is Lake Superior in the background. Yes, Lake Superior looks like an ocean, it's pretty amazing.

 

Was gonna say, doesn't look like any part of the coast that I'm familiar with out west lol. That is pretty cool though

 

How did no one comment on this being done in a rental? Reason number 7,341 I will never buy a former rental.

 

Best answer,is walk across it first and if you dont go under,then drive across which is what we do on any water crossing..

 

Unless you're like Andre the Giant, brah! But yeah, walking it is critical.

 

This was too deep for my liking and it isn't bad compared to most of you on here. Stock suspension and tires

Lol. It is VERY far from both of those places on an abandoned iron ore mine on Bell island in Newfoundland. Water here is FW but thats the north atlantic right behind.

Water was only 2ish feet max, but the suuuuuper slick iron ore muck/clay/glue was soft enough to sink another few feet. I had all 4 wheels spinning and it sank further.

And it was 3°c. So almost freezing. Like f*ck i was gonna wade through that to test. Although in hindsight it would have saved me loooots of time and money

 

And super easy to do. I ran mine to behind the left rear light housing.
